Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - joebloggs - 11-10-15 The nights are pulling in and the clocks are about to change so most of our riding apart from weekends is going to be done in the dark I don't know if you've tried this (it really does work) but does anyone else use their pass switch mid corner? On an empty road switch to low as you approach the turn and flick your pass switch on giving both low and high together and watch the outside edge of the light beam (please also make sure you make the turn) you'll see the beam go almost vertical, assuming your actually leaning over, but all of the light on the inside of the turn illuminates the road where you need it most. Now provided your commited to the corner and your actually leaning the bike over you can use the same technique with on coming traffic without affecting them (I've looked into the cars around me during the corner and have seen no extra light on the driver, target fixation my ass) and you have maximum illumination when you need it most. I've never had a another vehicle flash their lights or signal in anyway to say my highbeam has affected them. Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - darrsi - 11-10-15 Probably 'cos you blinded them into an emergency stop, then as you ride away they're shouting every swear word available in their vocabulary from inside their motor which you never hear! :grumble Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - Billy Balthorpe - 11-10-15 Yup, done this for years. Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - Tangoman - 11-10-15 Been doing this for the last few week, but do let the switch off if cars are coming the other way, for me easier that flipping between high and low beam. Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - fazersharp - 11-10-15 Dont do dark like I dont do rain but isnt the pass switch exactly the same full on. And if nothing is coming the other way then just leave full beam on anyway. And why is it called the "pass switch" there is no such thing in the uk highway code that says flash your lights when "passing" what am I not understanding Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - joebloggs - 11-10-15 Not the only one who found the benefit of using them both together, I mentioned this on MCN a few years ago and the response wasn't pretty. Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - sinto607276 - 11-10-15 Never have to do this as my HID does a grand job on its own :b (11-10-15, 09:02 PM)fazersharp link Wrote:And why is it called the "pass switch" there is no such thing in the uk highway code that says flash your lights when "passing" what am I not understandingBecause you should use it when you pull out to overtake. Just before you commit the overtake, you press the pass switch, to show the vehicle your overtaking your intentions. Although more commonly used these days to say 'thanks' or 'you go' etc. The flashing of lights, as well as the sounding of the horn, are defined in the highway code as to show/warn of your presence. And thus if you flashed your lights as you are about to overtake it warns other road users of your presence and is being used in accordance within the highway code. Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - joebloggs - 11-10-15 Flashing your lights before overtaking these days would probably get you run off the road. I flash artics to let them know its safe to pull in and that's about it Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - fazersharp - 11-10-15 (11-10-15, 09:57 PM)sinto link Wrote:Never have to do this as my HID does a grand job on its own :bBecause you should use it when you pull out to overtake. [/quote] Ok good but why is it called a "Pass switch" on bikes but not on cars Re: Using highbeam through corners (this may get me some flak) - sinto607276 - 11-10-15 (11-10-15, 10:03 PM)joebloggs link Wrote:Flashing your lights before overtaking these days would probably get you run off the road.I use it regularly, I never have hassle with it, it's not a bad thing to do imo, provided it's not just a flash, I tend to hold it on till I'm sure the driver has seen me. I'll make my own choice if I want to overtake or not, although I appreciate what their doing as their heart's in the right place.
