Soft front forks. - StaffsFazer77 - 18-09-15 Hi, Just recently purchased a new FZ6N 2004, after coming from a FZS600 98 i find the front forks very soft and tend to travel a fair bit when breaking? Is there a way of fixing this? as in changing the oil? I dont really want to have to change the whole forks? Not to familiar with bike mechanics, so I apologies if its a stupid question. Thanks Re: Soft front forks. - kebab19 - 18-09-15 Heavier fork springs would help, heavier fork oil might also assist. Unfortunately as the forks are damper-rod construction, so heavier springs and oil will translate as increased harshness / more jarring from the forks up through the handlebars. For the complete cure, after the first two mods you'd need to modify the fork internals, converting them with cartridge fork emulators. But bear in mind this final mod would not be as simple as changing the springs and fork oil. Re: Soft front forks. - StaffsFazer77 - 21-09-15 Thanks for the info. Just a quick update, had another good look around the bike over the weekend and took it for a ride and the ride does feel pretty bumpy, and can feel most little knocks and bumps through the handle bars, but feels worse than just suspension, as if somethings loose? or damaged? whether this could be a bearing issue??? Re: Soft front forks. - Grahamm - 21-09-15 AIUI Yamaha skimped a bit on the design of the FZ6 from the FZS (eg no dog-bones or adjustable damping on the rear shock) so it could simply be a change in the feel you've been used to. Still worth getting it checked out, though. Ive ridden a FZ6 before and it didnt feel anything like this? Hard to explain the feeling, but i went over those painted lines in the road for a speed camera and had to stop to make sure my front tyre hadnt gone flat? i could feel every little bump and other bumps seem magnified? I need to adjust the rear shock a little as its on number 7 and i haven't got the tool kit so missing the adjustment tool, but booked my bike in for Wednesday at my local garage for a check over and see what they can find? Ive only recently bought the bike, so hopefully not bought a lemon, but i got it for a reasonable price (or so i think) and don't mind doing a few bits to it to freshen it up as its an 04 with just over 10k miles on it. |
