chain lube - red98 - 26-08-15 Been using spray lube for a few years now but never been really happy with it, so decided to try a paste, comes in a tube with a brush on so easy to apply and no mess, its like painting on a grease, just removed my rear wheel to replace the rear shock and theres very little lube on the wheel, think I'll STICK :rolleyes with this now :thumbup Re: chain lube - slappy - 26-08-15 Never seen that before, where did you get it? Re: chain lube - red98 - 26-08-15 Infinity motorcycles, think it was about £7.....I have one of their loyalty cards , even when I dont use it they send me a £10 voucher twice a year...pays for my lube :thumbup Re: chain lube - Rob R - 26-08-15 I love this product. Hein Gericke used to sell the stuff. I bought 6 tubes in their closing down sale, I think they were half price, and am now down to my last one. I'll have to investigate Infinity M/Cs. Rob Re: chain lube - slimwilly - 27-08-15 Me and my wife use that, it's cheaper than KY jelly, and it doesn't fling, and supposedly her fanny will last a lifetime. Re: chain lube - bri h - 27-08-15 Looks good Paul ill have to give it whirl :lol . Re: chain lube - fazersharp - 27-08-15 BUT -- butty - but but. That just sticks on the outside doing - not a lot. The spray I use comes out almost liquid and runs in and around the rollers and links and then sets. As an added benefit it probably makes one hell of a dental floss/mouthwash too Re: chain lube - mark g - 28-08-15 I was gonna say I would have thought the paste stuff would just stop the chain from going rusty and do nothing to actually lubricate it properly?? :rolleyes Re: chain lube - purplebear7 - 28-08-15 Grease and other Sticky Stuff will just collect (and hold) fine road dust and Grit :\. Grease and Grit make Grinding Paste !! :\ A Wet Chain is a Happy Chain ... Oil it ... Scottoiler's Rule ... Sorted ![]() Y'all Stay Safe now. Re: chain lube - red98 - 28-08-15 some good points there and a reply from SLIMWILLY :lol ....you can work the lube between the plates where it needs to be with the brush, takes longer compared to a spray lube but it stays on the chain longer.....been using it for 4/5 weeks now and chain still looks wet and clean.for £7 i think its good value :thumbup Re: chain lube - slimwilly - 28-08-15 So how do the mechanics of a chain work ? I was lubing mine often on the euro run this year,,but,,,,,,, I knackered my chain,,forgot to lube it ONE morning,,after a 3 or 4 hundred mile ride,,then another 3 hundred ontop,,it started to stiff link,,,shit me up a bit,,totally fucked it...replaced when got home.. So the side plates are compressed against an o ring of rubber which probably keeps the lube already inside the pin ,roller inside and the road grime out,,so some of the reason we lube is to lubricate these rubbers and lube the side plates moving against thereselves,, so when you lube your chain does the lube penetrate beyond,go inside the rubber rings ? Re: chain lube - celticdog - 28-08-15 It's all about viscosity! A low viscosity medium- thin oil, will allow maximum penetration :eek However it won't stick to the chain for very long, especially under high speeds and sharp braking conditions. A high viscosity lube- e.g. paste, will stick to the chain well but won't penetrate as deep. However, the more you work the chain, the hotter it gets and the better the penetration :eek. It's a compromise, how often you want to lube and how much you want to spend. Some folks use old motor oil for cheapness or use chainsaw oil for maximum cling, it's a personal choice. Slimwilly is correct, a good chain is a bit like the missus . . . keep her warm and wet and you can't go wrong ![]() |
