sprocket cover oil leak - Paulfzs - 06-08-15

i think ive found the source of my oil leak, it appears to be from one of the bolt holes :S

the sprockets been off and no oil behind, clutch rod no oil, gear shaft no oil and a bolt hole seems to be full of oil..

now what?

the oil leak is noticeable after like 30+ miles itll leave a puddle the size of 2 50p coins.

Re: sprocket cover oil leak - darrsi - 06-08-15

Would that be suggesting a cracked casing then?

Sounds a bit like this:

could be a cracked case, would be cracked inside the bolt hole itself :/

ptfe tape on the bolts i think then and see what happens.

It's not good whichever angle you look at it unfortunately.
Try the tape though, you certainly have nothing to lose.

Over tightening the bolts would be my guess.

Re: sprocket cover oil leak - Paulfzs - 28-08-15

so finally attacked this...

took cover off gave it all a wash out, the right hand side bolt was covered in oil when i took it out and a little oil dripped out the bolt hole so yep...

upon looking the reason its actually coming out is....

the sprocket cover bolt guide we will call it had 2 notches cut out of it, not sure if thats how theyre made (someone confirm?) and the bolt looked like its been caught on something and flattened the thread on 2 parts of it which appear to line up with these 2 big notches :S maybe something happened and damaged them both?

i wrapped it in a metric fuckton of ptfe tape and bolted it back together, and as of yet ive only had maybe 2-3 drops of oil which ill guess are whats left inside the casing/side of engine.
