Trackers and Trakking - Ianthebuyer - 26-07-15 Hi, I had a look for threads on Bike trackers and couldn't find much, maybe I missed it! So does anyone have any useful experience of whether these are reliable and worth it. Looking at insurance, apparently they like them, better than alarms, but it seems to make about 5-10% difference in premiums, not enough to cover the annual cost. One's I have found include: Datatool Trakking - £300 + £100 a year Biketrac - ditto cost Cheap ebay tracker things £20 ish! So real world benefit or experience thing to help the owner sleep at night? Re: Trackers and Trakking - BBROWN1664 - 26-07-15 Chances are if your bike is stolen, you won't want it back. As you have also spotted, the discount they give doesn't cover the annual charge. One method that, of you just want to know where it is rather than get the discount. Get an old android phone and fit a 12v socket to you bike. Install a tracking app on the phone and hide it all in the tail piece where it won't be found straight away. Use an Orange or similar sim that doesn't need topping up each month and sit back safe in the knowledge you know where the bike is whilst awaiting your insurance payout. Re: Trackers and Trakking - sc0ttie - 03-01-16 I would beg to differ, I would want the bike back and if the tracker was to enable the conviction of the thief who stole it that would be quite satisfying. There are many trackers on ebay and amazon these days prices between £10 and £25 which use a pay as you go sim card, which you can get for as little as £6 a month. It is something I have been thinking about doing for a little while. Re: Trackers and Trakking - Punkstig - 03-01-16 Maplins do one for £50 Re: Trackers and Trakking - fazersharp - 03-01-16 If you are thinking of one in terms of an insurance discount then the ins-comp may only offer one for a select few makes of tracker and not just any. |
