Incubator hatching - slimwilly - 09-07-15 Now I know not much, some help on the internet but I am trying to hatch out some eggs, chickens, ducks, quail. that customers give me. I had the first lot of duck and chickens in for nearly three weeks then we had a power cut :eek Now last Friday night we and some friends were sat in the kitchen having a beer and "cheep cheep" a little black chic hatched, it made good progress over night and we named it Terry after one of our friends that was visiting. Here is Terry, doing very well Now Terry was a bit lonely as the other two eggs did not survive so we asked a friend for some chicks to keep him company,,along 4 days later came 4 little pheasant chicks, Buuuttttttttttt naughty little Terry started to attack them,,pecking their bright pink feet,,so little Terry is in solitary confinement until he behaves himself. Re: Incubator hatching - slimwilly - 09-07-15 Now some duck eggs are hatching,,,they are not doing very well..i guess the moisture level ,humidity is too low,i must buy a hydrometer to check..none of the ducks hatched on their own,,they chipped the egg and stayed in there for three days, drying out and losing weight so I helped a couple out,,one black one is doing o but the yellow one is twisted neck and wobbly Re: Incubator hatching - dazza - 09-07-15 I made the mistake of helping a duck chick out of it's egg once Slim, I think they need to struggle and do it on their own otherwise when out they don't seem to have the strength to support their own weight. Do you know anyone local with a duckdoo, this can help the hatching process ? Re: Incubator hatching - celticdog - 09-07-15 Nice pics Slimwily, lets hope the wee yellow fella pulls through Re: Incubator hatching - slimwilly - 09-07-15 Dazza,, you ain't gonna get me on that one " what's a "Duckdoo" :lol :lol :lol go "Quack Quack" Well I put the two duclings into the brooder box and now Terry pecks the pheasant chicks,,and the pheasant chicks peck Donald and Daffy duckling,,so had to split them too,,three sections in one hot box,,,,bloody primitive animals,,stupid or what Re: Incubator hatching - chaz - 09-07-15 tried incubating about 24 hens eggs, only got one to hatch, the incubator ran off paraffin, it belonged to the GFs dad, he worked on the railways, the house he had lived in didn't have electricity, unheard of these days, arh the good old days (1950s) Re: Incubator hatching - slimwilly - 12-07-15 Well the yellow one was too wobbly so he got knocked on the head,,pity Anyhow I have 3 good ducklings, had put them out on the grass in the sun today Re: Incubator hatching - slimwilly - 12-07-15 And Terry the chick and the four pheasant chicks get on alright out in the Arc on the grass, I take them all in at night,,they need the heat lamp |
