Hi all. Getting Gen 1 Fazer 1000. Advice needed - Just Fazered - 06-07-15 Hi all, I'm getting a standard unmolested FZS 1000 Fazer, 2004 (gen1) on Friday. Not had one previously and thought it best to move away from bum in air and aching wrists and shoulders ![]() I've read that suspension is a bit soft so wonder if it's a quick fix by putting sae 20w in the forks and adjusting the rear shock to stiffen it up, or is there more to it than that? Going to get myself a rack to chuck a camera bag on, plus a pipe so it doesn't sound like a Dyson or Singer sewing machine anymore :rollin Any help or advice to a newbie like me would be really well received If anyone knows of a rack or pipe for sale, please give me a shout Am I correct in thinking the bike doesn't need a Power Commander with a pipe on it? Cheers Ray. Re: Hi all. Getting Gen 1 Fazer 1000. Advice needed - nick crisp - 06-07-15 Hi Ray, welcome to FOC-U. Standard rear shock is crap. Most folks here go for an R6 item (available from devilsyam on this site - you have to get the right one), or Nitron, some for BMW S1000RR shock. Will transform the bike. I have to say I've never found the front forks to be too bad, they have a fair range of adjustment. It may only need, as you say, a refreshment of the oil. 20W sounds a bit heavy to me, but others may know better. Don't need a PC, it being a carb'd bike. Choose a can, bung it on, and away you go. Oh, and we need pics of the bike so we can argue whether or not you bought a fast colour :lol Re: Hi all. Getting Gen 1 Fazer 1000. Advice needed - unfazed - 12-07-15 :agree Welcome, change the fork springs but put 10w not 20w, make sure the damping adjusters on the forks are not stuck (especially the compression ones), set both compression and rebound to 5 clicks out from full in, set static front sag to 23mm as a start point and work from there Plenty of info on this site about the S1000rr and R6 rear shock upgrade Ivanising appears to be the way to go for the bike. Re: Hi all. Getting Gen 1 Fazer 1000. Advice needed - stevierst - 12-07-15 Best performance upgrade you can get is simply to buy mine , it's already done! 8) Re: Hi all. Getting Gen 1 Fazer 1000. Advice needed - Just Fazered - 13-07-15 Thanks for the updates all, its appreciated. Messing with the forks like that is beyond my limited skill set, so will get a quote for that, or if anyones in Surrey / Middlesex borders who can work on it at reasonable rates, please give me a shout. I'm in Shepperton, near M3 / A316 in Sunbury Near to both M25 Junctions 11 & 13 M4 about 20 mins A3 about 15 mins Heathrow T4 about 20 mins Thanks guys Ray - Just Fazered BTW, only had mine for a few days so ain't selling it for another one - yet ![]() Re: Hi all.
