new sprockets - Val - 01-07-15 I have ordered today my new steel JT sprockets, 14 tooth front and 49 tooth rear plus dandy new Tsubaki Alpha XRG Gold chain. Can't wait for the delivery guy :rollin :rollin :rollin Re: new sprockets - rhinoeli - 01-07-15 (01-07-15, 01:12 AM)Val link Wrote: 14 tooth front and 49 tooth rear That surely will be a beast. Re: new sprockets - Lumpy - 06-07-15 flat out at 90mph :b Re: new sprockets - Millietant - 10-07-15 I'm confused Val, looking at the gearing commander, all you've done is effectively to make your new 6th gear the same as your old 5th, your new 5 th gear is your old 4th and your new 4th is your old 3rd. With the changes to 1st and 2nd gear ratio's I can only assume you're going drag racing - and you don't care about fuel economy. To my simple mind, just by never going above 5th gear, you'd have pretty much the same effect, witkhout spending any money on sprockets/chain etc. Like I say, I'm confused - some will think me a numbskull, but I just don't understand changing the gearing this way, unless the bike is so grossly over geared so that it won't pull top gear (which isn't the case on the Fazer)". ALSO - have you ordered a shorter chain - I think your change might mean that you need to take a link or two out. Re: new sprockets - Val - 10-07-15 An update 14/49 not working for me. The standard 110 chain was too short. Although gearing commander say the difference is only -0.71 mm so you would have expected to have more space. In fact its the opposite - the chain was very tight. So I have bought standard 48 rear. Now I am with 14/48. Not exactly making my final drive ratio from standard 15/48=3.2 to 14/48=3.43 gives me a little more acceleration. Comparing standard 80kg rider with standard 3.2 ratio with me 100kg rider with 3.43 ratio. What I gain in ratio almost the same I loose in weight. Look at performance analyser to see acceleration gain. http://motorcycleperformanceanalyzer.com/yamaha/fzs-600-fazer-1998/ It is say in 2nd gear on 9300 rpm standard acceleration for 80kg rider woud be 6.83m/s2 with rpm 9300 and speed 102km/h. With me minus 1 tooth front 14/48 for 100kg rider acceleration would be 7m/s2 with rpm 9300 and speed 96km/h. In order to happen what you have suggested your new 3rd to be your old 2nd you need to go for something drastic like 13/53. I will report on fuel economy in some time, but frankly in town riding that I mostly do that depends more on when you shift not on that ratio the way it is now. It would matter if I do long motorway trips which I don't. In fact I do not have any motorway ride at all. All in all the change I have done is to merely do the bike for me weighting 100kg the same as for lighter rider :lol To be precise 77kg guy with standard bike will have EXACTLY the same speed/acceleration/rpms as me with 14/48. About the chain see above actually I needed one link more for 14/49. Hence Ihave gone for 14/48. |
