Has anyone encountered this? - 7omly - 26-06-15 I fitted a rack (brilliant bit of kit made by johnakay) and a top box. Before the fitment the rear of the bike was always clean. Now when I go out in the rain the number plate, top box rear, tail light and rear plastics are covered in road spray and dirt. Looks like I'll have to make a mudflap. I'm not keen on spoiling the look of the bike but I ride all year round so it's a must. Any suggestions or help gratefully received. Re: Has anyone encountered this? - Freck - 26-06-15 Have you got a hugger fitted, that might help. If you have one fitted, take it off :rollin Re: Has anyone encountered this? - Paulfzs - 26-06-15 mine does this, also made by johnakay ![]() its only because it flicks up to the topbox as it sticks out the back further where mud would usually go up and away behind you. Re: Has anyone encountered this? - Punkstig - 27-06-15 This should fix the spray problem http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=191481215392&alt=web Re: Has anyone encountered this? - Frosties - 27-06-15 (27-06-15, 08:31 AM)Punkstig link Wrote: This should fix the spray problem :lol :lol :lol I get the same shite all over the topbox, number plate etc and I've got a hugger fitted. I've put it down to the topbox causing some sort of vortex at the back when you hit a certain speed....my Tiger does the same. Just learnt to live with it and as i'm also a 365 rider I don't tend to wash it much in the winter....one rainy day on the motorway and it's fecked. Re: Has anyone encountered this? - Punkstig - 27-06-15 I've fitted an extender, think it was for an xj900 or similar- no more muck up the rear! Re: Has anyone encountered this? - 7omly - 27-06-15 I'm probably going to offend someone here but what the hell. I'd rather sandpaper my knackers and dip them in salt than have anything to do with anything Harley and I hate them only slightly less than the wife. ![]() Re: Has anyone encountered this? - Freck - 27-06-15 (27-06-15, 02:34 PM)7omly link Wrote: I'm probably going to offend someone here but what the hell....... I wouldn't worry mate, I think there might be a few red flags flying on here at the moment as there's a number of people taking the hump at little bits of banter! I thought bikers usually had a good grasp of sarcasm and a sense of humour (well us northerners do.........you're not a southerner are you? Not sure that anybody that rides Harley can be offended anymore than they are already simply by the fact riding the thing :lol Scientifically proven not possible trust me on this :rollin Re: Has anyone encountered this? - Val - 27-06-15 (26-06-15, 10:15 PM)7omly link Wrote: I fitted a rack (brilliant bit of kit made by johnakay) and a top box. Actually this the reason I've starter using tank bags. Top box messes with your bike air flow. Even it can cause you wobble and crash on high speeds. The top box is creating some kind of vortex and vacuum behind your bike and inreases the air drag in a way similar to that for a car boot. Probably you can experiment with some spoilers to fix that :lol And I read an article that any weight high on the back of the back may contribute to tank slappers (top box or some high heavy tail bags): http://geoffjames.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/tankslappers-top-boxes-and-trembles.html I am just using tank bags now. ![]() Re: Has anyone encountered this? - 7omly - 27-06-15 No I'm definitely not a southerner. I'm a Northerner born and bred. We love a bit of sarcasm up here. In fact if we don't get it off each other we suspect somethings up. You can't take yourself too seriously if you've been daft enough to ride a motorbike for nearly forty years. |
