? rear caliper - mr wayneker - 14-06-15 hi all after taking my rear caliper off.....its shot to shit..one piston comes out one stays in.. I thought it was by the way it came to a stop.......any hoooo my question is what make or other models do these brakes come off that will fit straight back on now with out a bike....can see a re-con set on ebay for £140 ish....the other set sounds a bit dodgy all I wanted to do was a clean down of the brakes get the crud of the pistons, sproose them up a bit.. oh and I noticed there were no support pads down the bottom under the pads when I took them out... I live down in devon Re: ? rear caliper - darrsi - 14-06-15 Support pads? Normally, new seals and a bit of TLC and cleaning can suffice, but if it's really fooked then start hunting for a "fully working" caliper on Ebay, or do a free online motorcycle breaker parts search. The "fully working" description part is vital, 'cos if it's shite you have a valid reason for a swap or money back. Re: ? rear caliper - mr wayneker - 14-06-15 hi darrsi don't think new seals and pistons are gonna cut it....when pumping the brake to move piston out... the seals were getting pushed out with it ...looks like the wall around the piston has started to brake away. Yamaha support pad number 6 on the parts list AJ SUTTON there is one on ebay re-con looks ok £148 sound ok on price? Re: ? rear caliper - darrsi - 14-06-15 Support pad not needed at all, more of an anti squeal item, but a light smear of copper grease sorts that out. £148 way too much, you should be looking around the £50 mark. Put a request in the "for sale/wanted" section on here for starters, lots of people have upgraded to the 1000 caliper so may have one laying about. If maintained on a regular basis the 600 caliper is more than enough, but when neglected they go tits up. (technical term) Re: ? rear caliper - mr wayneker - 14-06-15 ok thank you.... now ive got the caliper off...I think I might strip it right back...have a look then put it back together for shits and giggles Re: ? rear caliper - darrsi - 14-06-15 Rather rare, you have 3 days to consider. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-fazer-1000-fzs1000-rear-caliper-fazer-600-/321779837873?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4aeb92abb1 Re: ? rear caliper - mr wayneker - 14-06-15 do I have to mod the caliper mount????? Re: ? rear caliper - anutz - 14-06-15 here is what i did.....there are other ways but mine seems ok, still needs to get throught the MOT but thats due to other issues... http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,17138.0.html Re: ? rear caliper - paulchucky - 14-06-15 post it to me n i`ll refurb it for you Re: ? rear caliper - mr wayneker - 14-06-15 they are beyond referb paulchucky...... well that was a task....striped them apart got pistons out removed seals got out all the crud..... binned the dust seals to far gone..polished pistons went back in lovely with a bit of brake fluid on.....didn't put new banjo seals on and didn't replace the seal between the two calipers.....no point if im getting second hand caliper.....now I have brakes for a bit longer will keep an eye on any leaks....no binding no judder both pistons in and out.......shall do for now are the blue dot rear any better than the oem fzs600 caliper????? Re: ? rear caliper - paulchucky - 14-06-15 (14-06-15, 09:34 PM)mr wayneker link Wrote: they are beyond referb paulchucky...... that`s your opinion send it to me if you think its scrap i`ll pay the postage thanks Paul Re: ? rear caliper - anutz - 14-06-15 The pistons are a little bigger, few mm, not sure how that translates but suspect its a little more bit, it also looks nicer... i changed mine as i was lucky to spot one from the USA for 51£ shipped, so jumped on it, else i would have been happy with a 600 OEM one.... Main benefit for me is that the caliper has much better drainage Re: ? rear caliper - mr wayneker - 14-06-15 that's what I thought open bottom although the oem has two holes in the bottom.... paulchucky...the wall at the front of the dust cover is starting to fall away and reveal the dust cover 1mm 2mm gaps allround like a rat has been at it.....when I get new one your welcome to it. Re: ? rear caliper - Val - 14-06-15 (14-06-15, 10:58 AM)mr wayneker link Wrote: hi darrsi That sounds expensive. I am planning to do a caliper exchange at some point. There is a company you send them the old caliper they send you back immediately the same brand refurbished one. And by refirbished they mean better than rebuild with complete makeover with new parts if needed. http://www.powerhouseautomotive.co.uk/content/motorcycle-brakes/motorcycle-brake-caliper-exchange-service.php They have ebay shop too. And are an UK based company with calipers for sporty cars and bikes their main business, not some dodgy ebay seller. I do not think it is wise idea to trust your life to some non-professional about brakes. I do a lot of bike DIY but I would not trust myself for that matter. If I was you I would give them a call. Re: ? rear caliper - anutz - 14-06-15 i have been in touch with these guys as well, very helpful, ended up not needing them but have heard the recommended on here before....
