Stock versus Renthal bars: measurments - b1k3rdude - 08-06-15

Has anyone every accurately measured the stock bars via the following diagram..?

I got some rough measurements with the bars on the bike -

                A,      B,        C,      D,    E,      F
STOCK - 670, 60-70, 40-50, 105, 140, 200(guess)
758    -  725,    75,      50,  110,  95,  232
  • The 758's I know has been mentioned a few times, is closest to stock - with a smaller sweep E (better for me) and a bit more height B (also better).
  • The only thing I might have to do is trim the A so the width isn't larger than stock.
  • Has anyone gotten stock weights on the renthals..? or are there any heavy ends that will fit?
  • And will I have to drill a hole for the switchgear to locate into..?

Some drill a hole, some cut the lug off the switchgear housing. I cut my lugs off and put a couple of layers of tape around so they clamp hard, they never move...

I cut the lugs off too and put some tape on.

I have Oberon bar ends which fit the renthals.

I got a local machine shop to tap out my 758s to take the OEM bar ends before fitting them. I think you'll have difficulty finding weighted ones for the Renthals, a lot of folks slip some rolled up lead strips inside the bars  to reduce vibes before fitting aftermarket aluminium ends.

Ah this is interesting, so -
  • what thread size did the machine shop need to cut?
  • did you reduce/trim the end of the bars?
  • inc/ the oem weight how much did the bars stick out to, or much further than stock..?
  • if you did trim was there enough space on the bar for the grip, switchgear and lever mount..?

Renthal bar needs 14mm bar ends. Today I tried to fit these Oxford slim flat bar ends:

Should have listen to the negative review. These bar ends do not fit Renthal. Too loose. The Oxford bar ends are 13mm. I have measured the Renthal bar and its 14mm.

Fixed with some duck tape, but its a bummer. Be warned  :lol

@Val, with the greatest respect - I would never contemplate fitting pointless bar ends like that.

I was going to cut mine down etc but after trying them "as is" I liked it so they stayed unmolested. I don't have any bar ends in mine and vibes are fine, I do 100 miles everyday commuting with no problems.  Overall they are narrower than stock bars with barends.

1) I took the bars and the bar end to the shop and picked them up fully tapped, cost me a tenner.
2) No, I like the stance the 758's give as standard.
3) Don't have before and after measurements but the Renthals with the OEM ends are noticeably wider and lower.
4) N/A, you could trim a bit off but unless you're short of arm or have some legitimate reason to do this I wouldn't bother.
5) No issues with cables or wiring.
6) Depends on what angle you have the bars installed, you can find a good compromise.
7) The bars will tilt anyhow, again you'll be able to find a good compromise.

I tried lightweight aftermarket aluminium bar ends, the difference in vibes is noticeable at first but you get used to them, overall I think tapping the bars and fitting the OEM ends is the best option but that's just my opinion.

Just fitted the 758's. Check out my blog for pics comparing them with stock.

I found with them tilted too far forward my knuckles would whack my mirrors and throttle cables on fairing.

I used some self amalgamating tape under switch gear to stop them spinning after chopping lugs off.

For bar ends have ordered some r&g ones, will see how they are. Currently riding with none, but no issue with vibes.

I dont have the OEM measurements, but with the bar ends of mine fitted (yes, they are oberon ones), the bars + weights measures just under 32" when measuring straight across at the widest point. I haven't trimmed the bars at all so that's the full width of normal renthals.

Not noticed any big increases in vibes myself TBH.

Ok, I think Ill get a set of 758's purly for the less amount of sweep compared to stock, and have found a place online that will do me set me some 15mm riser extentions. The plan is My pamls sit straighter on the bars and I sit slight more up right.
