What to look for on an early 1000 - mark g - 30-05-15 Hi Guys, I'm on the lookout for an early thou, is there anything out of the ordinary I should be looking out for when going to view? Cheers Re: What to look for on an early 1000 - devilsyam - 30-05-15 exup for sure as expensive to sort if buggered rear shock is pants engines are bomb proof altough silver engine paint does tyre in its luster with age itd one the best slrounders out there and long term ownership is well known as is the return to the bike after trying others its a hard bike to beat you can mod it to death i know one the main culprits Re: What to look for on an early 1000 - mark g - 30-05-15 (30-05-15, 07:20 PM)devilsyam link Wrote:exup for sure as expensive to sort if buggered rear shock is pants engines are bomb proof altough silver engine paint does tyre in its luster with age Cheers for that Devilsyam, how do you know if the EXUP valve is playing up? do they cycle run when the ignition is switched on ? God I've just checked out your website with your modded Fazers on ![]() Re: What to look for on an early 1000 - nickodemon - 30-05-15 The rev counter will go up and down to 7000 rpm if exup valve is sticking. Someone who has properly looked after their bike will be able to answer your questions and demonstrate that the cover bolts are not seized, this would be a good indication that the rest of the bike has been looked after. If buying from a dealer check out the condition of the Exup cover bolts and if they look rusted and rotten assume the worst, in any case ask that the dealer service the EXUP prior to you collecting the bike. Check here so you know what you're talking about - http://www.cartestsoftware.com/fz1/exupmaintenance.html and check out the rest of Pat's page when you have the time as it's all useful stuff. Like the previous posters have said other than the Exup valve the only real weak points are the OEM rear suspension, corrosion and flaky engine paint. If the bike still has the original shock factor in the cost of getting it refurbished or replaced as this really does effect the bikes handling and ultimately your riding experience. Re: What to look for on an early 1000 - mark g - 31-05-15 Cheers Pal, great info to know, sounds like I'd best swot up on the EXUP valve :-) Thanks once again for all the repiles, I'll keep you informed on how my search and purchase goes ![]() Re: What to look for on an early 1000 - sadlonelygit - 31-05-15 forgot to mention aftermarket headers...........if it's a well known make then fine, if it's a Sandy's special then avoid. no-one has mentioned 3rd gear either yet! selector arm gets bent on ham fisted wheelie bikes. should be obvious on a test ride though! Re: What to look for on an early 1000 - RMT1983 - 31-05-15 Whats up with those stainless pipes??? Ive been looking at buying some of those.................. Does anyone have a link to a set that's a known decent set??? Isnt it because they do away with the exup valve which is a bad thing?
