Finally Found Forks - Stupid Luke - 12-05-15 After half a dozen unsuccessful bids I have finally got a set of R1 5PW forks for my front end conversion. They are gold, and black would have looked better but otherwise happy days. Anyway, I am likely to be waiting a while for either a custom yoke set or for Devilsyam's steering stem so I am thinking of getting the forks sent off for set up. I know it would be best to wait until they are fitted but it would be great to have everything in place so I the bike is useable as soon as it is bolted together. Has anyone running R1 forks done this? Did you need to go up or down from std springs? I have the std FZS forks set up with 9.5nm springs and weigh about 13 st with kit. Re: Finally Found Forks - NorthWestern - 12-05-15 I put some linear 10.0 springs in mine (I got std 675R springs for £10, fit in fine but needed a spacer of around 15mm IIRC ) as I used 4XV forks which have a soft spring as standard, 7.5w oil. They are firm but you have less travel that the fazer forks and they handle 2 up riding well. Re: Finally Found Forks - sadlonelygit - 12-05-15 38-250-XX springs and 1.0kg/mm for a firm setup. same springs as HONDA,CBR900RR-954,2002-2003 HONDA,CB1000R,2008> HONDA,ST1300,2003> KAWASAKI,ZX12-R,1998> KAWASAKI,ZX1400,2007> KAWASAKI,ZZR1400,2007> KTM,RC8,2008> SUZUKI,GSXR750,1998 SUZUKI,GSXR750,2000-2003 SUZUKI,GSX1300R HAYABUSA,1998-2007 SUZUKI,TL1000R,1998> YAMAHA,R1,2002-2003 YAMAHA,FZ1,2006> Re: Finally Found Forks - Stupid Luke - 12-05-15 (12-05-15, 01:07 PM)sadlonelygit link Wrote: 38-250-XX springs and 1.0kg/mm for a firm setup. Thanks for that. I have standard 2008 RC8 springs kicking around the garage as we put the RC8R cartridge kit in mine. However, I am guessing these springs willl be in the 2002/3 R1 forks anyway, unless it transpires the forks have been upgraded in the past? Think I will get the refreshed anyway as the oil might be 12 yrs old by now and take a view on springs once we know what is in there. Re: Finally Found Forks - sadlonelygit - 12-05-15 standard 5pw are .814kg/mm ktm's with 43mm wp are .965kg/mm use the ktm springs and lose 1/2 a stone :rollin |
