Finally getting my downpipes painted... - anutz - 09-05-15

So after the stud snapping nightmare....finally getting around to the real reason.....painting the downpipes with rust off  :lol 

I used some wire brush drill bits to get the rust off, and then rubbed them down with some coarse wet and dry - with no water, cleaned them with degreaser as well

I am using this:

Plan to re-attach to the bike and leave it running to let them "cure"

Drying at room temp before i put them back on the bike

If you haven't already got one, buy a front mudguard extender.
I was quite impressed at how much crap it stops being chucked at the downpipes.

Really good job anutz, you'll be well chuffed.
I hope I've put the right pic up but really like the look of that colour, I know it's in the drying process and not the finished colour, but do they do it in different colours?

So they do...

White
Black
Silver
Graphite
Red - but the red for some reason is tolerant to lower temperatures...

Will get a pic of it now on the bike as i have had it "baking" for the past 20 mins on tick over..

I used about 1/2 a can and its come up nice

Although red sounds good, don't think it would be the 'right' choice of colour for exhausts :rolleyes

I use Granvile cylinder black comes in a tin and you paint on with a brush and you can not see the brush marks after
Looks wet until you bake it on with a run. Did it in sit-u

Yeh looks wet but is dry to the touch and then with heat turns a satin/matt

before you fall asleep - any things to watch out for when taking the center stand off - might as well clean and paint that while i am off the road...

i have been plus gasing the bolts etc so should come off easy enough....

Haven't done it myself but I'd be watching out for the spring twanging me in the eye :fish

Loosen both bolts, then take one side off and the spring will recoil.


When putting back on just do the reverse, one side on then you can yank the other side on, stretching the spring in the process.


Look out for it being twisted or having rust holes, both are a bad thing.

Yes, make sure your bike is secure and won't fall, if you had that eazyrizer you could do this job no problems Smile

That looks superb. I'm going to get some of that paint and try it myself.
