Finally getting my downpipes painted... - anutz - 09-05-15 So after the stud snapping nightmare....finally getting around to the real reason.....painting the downpipes with rust off :lol I used some wire brush drill bits to get the rust off, and then rubbed them down with some coarse wet and dry - with no water, cleaned them with degreaser as well I am using this: ![]() Plan to re-attach to the bike and leave it running to let them "cure" ![]() ![]() Drying at room temp before i put them back on the bike ![]() Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - anutz - 09-05-15 This is how they were before i started cleaning them, end of the link pipe joint ![]() Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - darrsi - 09-05-15 If you haven't already got one, buy a front mudguard extender. I was quite impressed at how much crap it stops being chucked at the downpipes. Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - anutz - 09-05-15 Drying nicely.... ![]() Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - sinto607276 - 09-05-15
![]() Really good job anutz, you'll be well chuffed. I hope I've put the right pic up but really like the look of that colour, I know it's in the drying process and not the finished colour, but do they do it in different colours? Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - anutz - 09-05-15 So they do... White Black Silver Graphite Red - but the red for some reason is tolerant to lower temperatures... Will get a pic of it now on the bike as i have had it "baking" for the past 20 mins on tick over.. I used about 1/2 a can and its come up nice Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - anutz - 09-05-15 Here is the link to the black one i used... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007AFDCG2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 Otherr available in the related secion... Did it in sit-u After run Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - anutz - 09-05-15 they look smart - will post a pic of mine tmrw - similar result, different now they have baked Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - fazersharp - 10-05-15 Yeh looks wet but is dry to the touch and then with heat turns a satin/matt Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - darrsi - 10-05-15 (10-05-15, 12:19 AM)fazersharp link Wrote: Yeh looks wet but is dry to the touch and then with heat turns a satin/matt No fenda extender? Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - His Dudeness - 10-05-15 Haven't done it myself but I'd be watching out for the spring twanging me in the eye :fish Re: Finally getting my downpipes painted... - darrsi - 10-05-15 Loosen both bolts, then take one side off and the spring will recoil. When putting back on just do the reverse, one side on then you can yank the other side on, stretching the spring in the process. Look out for it being twisted or having rust holes, both are a bad thing.
