FZ6 - clutch plates - helmetvonthrob - 04-05-15 Can anyone tell me if there is a steel or a fibre plate to the inside of the basket? I just took out the old clutch and there was steel plate to the rear so I replaced the new the same way until I ran out of steel plates and ended up with a fibre plate left over (didn't think anything of it thinking that it might also be suitable for another model). So I built it all up and had no clutch. I then took it apart and did a plate count, realised there was steel plate missing so used one of the old ones. The clutch is now fine but the lever adjustment is right in (previously it was 1/2 out). How much hassle to use the adjuster in the middle of the cable? Re: FZ6 - clutch plates - chaz - 04-05-15 if you go to downloads and look at the service manual for your bike theres a drawing of the clutch, it looks like a plate goes on first it's 2.3mm thick then a friction plate (one of two ) then alternate plates 2mm thick and friction plates (brown) and finish with the remaining one of two. Maybe the first plain thicker plate isn't renewed and you retain the old one, this would explain being one short? but you need someone who has replaced the clutch and knows for certain, and let me know as my clutch will need replacing soon as I've 40K + miles on the bike. just a point the thicker plate might go on last???????? Re: FZ6 - clutch plates - helmetvonthrob - 17-05-15 Update.. I got the clutch back together with a used steel plate (not and it works except for with the new plates the lever adjuster is right in and I had to put some washers behind the clutch cable mounting arm (the chrome bracket that sits on the clutch cover) in order to get some clearance on the cable and allow the clutch to grip. Now I know the cable has an adjuster in the middle (WHY, and why make it soooo awkward) and I haven't looked at that as I have been busy but will fit a new cable soon anyway. I can't get my head round if I used a thinner plate if that would increase or decrease the play in the cable. |
