r1 front end for the masses - devilsyam - 26-04-15 ok a subject i was already playing with but after a chat with mike ill through it out there see the response problem there are so many ways to do this each works but there is no sorta standard way early r1 yokes getting difficult to find and wont work with fz1/8 top tree solution# i am looking to get 10 splindles turned up to work with the r1 07/08 bottom yoke and fz1 top yoke these will work with early legs up to 03 i have not yet tried the big bang yokes but will look into it for thoose who know og brian gs thread on the matter will know the yanks have already done this but mine has a twist (gotta do it different) brians shaft uses the r1 top nut which if friggin huge and leaves a hole down the middle i want to keep the fazer top nut So here the 6 million doller question i need 10 yes's to do a cnc run i will post costings when i recieve feedback and have the sample done to keep costs down will be in steel not ally as brian used as its tripple the price so you will get a shaft to take fz1 top yoke and press into a r1 07/8 bottom any takers Re: r1 front end for the masses - Stupid Luke - 26-04-15 I am in for one if the cost isnt too horrific. I may well still end up going with the custom yokes set but having one of these stems as a contingency gives me two options to get the job done. Re: r1 front end for the masses - fazed out - 26-04-15 Luke spoke to mike on friday about this i have emailed brian g about sharing his drawing for us in the uk he will get back to me next week so if the drawing is any good i will pass it on if brian g cool about it, i want to use your fork exstenders waiting for my fz1 top yolk gen 2 was going to mate it to a 03 r1 bottom end both run 25○ offset i have seen i in the states wiith no top hat bush under top yolk so thats what i'm hoping to mate up, i'm interested in a stem , has you say a mild steel stem probably the way to go , i'm going to get r1 stem out of yolk this week at work ,i will heat up bottom yolk then press out so to get measurements without streaching the hole to see what shrinkage is needed Re: r1 front end for the masses - Falcon 269 - 28-04-15 Met up with Luke during my 'Ivanising' trip and discussed this at some length. What he has in mind is potentially the simplest way of resolving the steering stem/yoke translant for the R1 front end conversion. It will do away with the need to have spacers machined up and present the neatest finished article. I think it's a really good idea and I wish him luck with getting this together. If you're thinking about doing this mod, contact Luke and let him know - and then start scouring ebay and the breakers' yards for a Gen 2 FZ1 or FZ8 top yoke. ![]() Mike Re: r1 front end for the masses - mickvp - 29-04-15 A yes from me - dependant on costs of course ![]() Do we have a rough idea of costs Luke, some guys might be more willing to commit with this. will it be the region of £200, £300 etc? just a thought. Re: r1 front end for the masses - nickodemon - 29-04-15 The steering stem shouldn't be tooo expensive. i paid approx £100 inc postage from America for an aluminium one from briang. Luke is using steel which is cheaper. ![]() |
