South East London based - Where to ride? - HJFazer - 20-04-15 Hi All, As the title suggests, I'm based in South East London (Technically Kent) and am after some advice about where to head for some fun roads. I've found a few nice roads around Knockholt and down towards Hevers Castle but only really by luck. I'm happy to head further out, last year I road down to Battle for the fun of it and found some nice roads on the way. In fairness, after commuting in London, anything with a tree by it seems exotic! Anyway I'm hoping to go out this Saturday and wondered if anyone knew any nice routes around the area. I realise I probably need to get outside the M25 (and to be honest, that's a bonus, the air is much cleaner there ![]() Cheers HJF Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - JoeRock - 20-04-15 http://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcycle-roads/motorbike-rides-in-united-kingdom-/united-kingdom-__134.html That site may be of great use! I'm in Bexley but rarely get time to ride for fun now - best bet is to combine a couple of those routes together and go out and try it! Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - HJFazer - 20-04-15 Cheers JoeRock, I'll have a look ![]() Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - BBROWN1664 - 20-04-15 Just a suggestion. Down the A22 to East Grinstead then across to Tunbridge Wells on the A264. Pick up the A21 south towards Hastings but turn off towards Goudhust on the A262 all the way to Beddenden. From there, take the A28 through Tenterden and down to Hastings. Hastings to Eastbourne on the A259 and then scoot back up the A22 to London. Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - midden - 20-04-15 U could always join the lofo rides....... :eek Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - slimwilly - 20-04-15 Go to Wales !!! you will love it,,,be back later love ,,,vrooo mmmm,,,,,,,very late :lol :lol Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - HarryHornby - 21-04-15 Have you seen the LOFO ride on 17th May, fancy joining us? Road up to Snowdon and back in glorious sunshine with barely any traffic. Easily my best day on a motorbike, including a trip to Normandy for the D-day landings anniversary HarryHornby & midden - I hadn't and I'll have a look. Would be nice to ride with some other people instead of on my lonesome Whereabouts do you meet up? Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - Kosmic Kartman - 21-04-15 Here's a quick route from my little red note book of road trips. Head out to Westerham B2026 B2028 To Haywards Heath then pick up B2112 to Ditcling then Ditchling Road to Brighton. Bacon egg roll and ice cream stop. Then A270 A27 Lewes A277 A275 A22 Ashurstwood Turn R upto A264 Follow to A228 A228 to Leybourne Then back home on A20. Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - sinto607276 - 21-04-15 Regardless where you stay, the best place to ride is in Scotland :rollin :rollin :rollin Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - youngsterbiker - 21-04-15 (21-04-15, 07:47 PM)sinto link Wrote: Regardless where you stay, the best place to ride is on Scotland :rollin :rollin :rollinI second this. Cant remember what it was actually called. Kosmo that sums it up nicely mate :lol. Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - Dead Eye - 22-04-15 Bri, I think that was something like the Burnham Bends which is in Essex somewhere I believe... Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - Stupid Luke - 22-04-15 Most of our Kent area rides end up at the coast usually Lydd, Camber and over the border into Rye. Depends what you are into we mostly aim for B roads and small A roads where we can get the hammer down without too much other traffic and police interference. We are not too bothered about anything but the next corner or what is likely to be pulling out of the next junction. Other folk are into riding larger A roads and sightseeing. There are some nice runs around Bodium castle for that. If you get lonely or want to make idle conversation with dozens of middle aged motorcyclists hanging around the seafront at Rye, Blue and White cafe Mersham, H's cafe Barham, Bury Hill Sussex, Box Hill Surrey and the Oakdene Wrotham on certain eveniings in Summer. Then there are ' bikers' that are into ploddding down to Hastings on mayday runs in amongst hundreds of other bikes are dozens of old bill, each to their own but I couldnt think of a worse way to waste motorcycling time. Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - Dead Eye - 22-04-15 I've done a bit of all of the above but my favourite stuff is the A/B roads. B roads can be a pain sometimes if the road surface isn't maintained and they can sometimes become a bit narrow for my liking... unfortunately most decent A roads are main arteries and end up carrying lots of traffic which spoils the ride ![]() Re: South East London based - Where to ride? - Red Ceri - 22-04-15 (22-04-15, 10:54 AM)Stupid Luke link Wrote: [quote author=bri h link=topic=16679.msg192399#msg192399 date=1429684666] That would be the Finchingfield loop I suspect.
