Day Trip - Kingy - 19-04-15 hi all I've planned a day trip to Belgium next week just after a bit of advice to comply with local laws, ie what do I need to have on board or reflective clothing etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated. ![]() Re: Day Trip - sinto607276 - 19-04-15 You'll find all the details here, I just typed in travelling to belgium by motorbike into Google for the answer! http://www.rac.co.uk/driving-abroad/belgium Re: Day Trip - Phil - 20-04-15 Don't forget the French laws. I think you are supposed to have reflective stickers on your helmet now. Re: Day Trip - BBROWN1664 - 20-04-15 No need for stickers on the helmet in France. hi-Vis incase of breakdown and spare bulbs are needed. You can ignore the breathalyser requirement as the fine for not having on is zero euros. Re: Day Trip - esetest - 20-04-15 A few of us went last year , in Belgium you will need a Hi vis , in france you just need to carry Hi vis and spare bulb kit in case you breakdown , breakdown recovery would be a good idea , carry a credit card a lot of garages are unmanned , watch your speed you could end up with a massive fine and your bike seized . Re: Day Trip - adeejaysdelight - 20-04-15 Do you not need a permit to drive on the motorways in Belgium? I've never bought one, just saying. Also, Belgium sucks. I've been a few times. Last year my mate and I fuel'd up at the French border so we wouldn't have to stop until we go to Holland. I'm not even joking. It's a yawn-fest. It encompasses the worst of the three countries surrounding it. Re: Day Trip - BBROWN1664 - 20-04-15 No permits needed for Belgium. It is boring though unless you want Belgian beer, chocolates or tobacco. Otherwise, I would down the French coast instead towards Le Touquet and inland from there towards St Omer. Depends where in Belgium, the Ardennes area has some fabulous roads, northern Belgium is very flat and boring though & has some of the worst road conditions (potholes) I have ever ridden on Re: Day Trip - Phil - 20-04-15 (20-04-15, 12:56 PM)adeejaysdelight link Wrote: Also, Belgium sucks. It encompasses the worst of the three countries surrounding it. A lot of it is flat and uninteresting. In the north the cities of Bruges and Gent are worth visiting. In the south the areas around Spa, and the part south of Dinant which sticks out into France around Bouillion, bordering Luxembourg and the French Ardenne is nice. A bit far for a day trip though. NW of Bouilion along the La Semois river. ![]() Re: Day Trip - Kingy - 20-04-15 Thanks for all the advice as this is my first trip across the channel on a bike it's just a quick run to Ypres for the day. So do I need a hi-vis for Belgium and stickers on the helmet? If so where do I get them from, do they have to be a certain size? Re: Day Trip - Phil - 20-04-15 Are you getting the ferry to Oostend? In that case you can ignore the French stuff. I wish they would sort their rules out. The RAC and AA give different advice. The link for the Belgium page has been given earlier http://www.rac.co.uk/travel/driving-abroad/countries/belgium France, if you are going via Calais etc http://shop.theaa.com/store/advice-on-driving-in-europe New regulation – motorcycles – effective from 1st January 2013 All drivers and passengers of a motorcycle over 125cc or a motor tricycle over 15 KW/h must wear reflective clothing when riding their vehicles. In the event of an emergency stop, the reflective clothing still needs to be worn. The ‘reflective clothing’ must have a minimum reflective surface of 150 sq. cm (approx 23 sq. in.) in total either in one piece or in several pieces, and must be worn in the upper part of the body (between the neck and the waist). A fine will be imposed for non compliance. Not sure if that is just Spain though?? http://www.rac.co.uk/travel/driving-abroad/countries/france Motorcyclists (Safety helmets are compulsory for drivers and passengers of mopeds and motorcycles. Helmets must have reflective elements as per paragraph 6.16 of ECE regulation 22-04.) |
