Spark plugs & caps - Silverlegacy - 16-04-15

Hi all,

My bikes still running a bit rough so thought i would check the spark plugs and bits.
Not sure how there supposed to look and if these are the original plug caps?
So maybe its time to change both over??

Yours are Yamaha OEM caps. NGK replacements are less than a fiver each.

Re: Spark plugs & caps - Silverlegacy - 16-04-15

also when i put in "fzs600 spark plugs" into ebay it brings up "CR9E" where as the ones that are in at the moment are "CR8E" is there any difference between the two??
Hard to tell from the above link is mine need replacing or now as look like the top ones mainly? although they do seem a little corroded on the nut? although I have no others to compare this too so maybe this is just the way they go after a while??

Re: Spark plugs & caps - Pal - 16-04-15

CR9E is the correct plug, the number denotes the heat range, ie the length of the insulator nose.
The plugs are not sealed when fitted so there will be some corrosion to the nut.
Yours don't look too bad for colour, but if you don't know the history I would replace them anyway with the correct plugs.

Re: Spark plugs & caps - unfazed - 16-04-15

CR8E For Northern Europe and CR9E for Southern Europe.

8 is a slightly hotter for the colder climates and 9 slightly colder for warmer climate.

Either will actually do as the difference in temperature levels between 8 and 9 is small, but for the UK climate CR8E is correct.

Plug caps are OEM. Usual recommendation is to roll back the boot on the lead, unscrew them, cut 5 to 10mm off the end of the leads, screw the caps back on until they are tight, put some vaseline around the lead and top of the cap and roll the boot back on.

As unfazed has said above CR8E are the correct plug for your bike the colour of plugs look okay but I would agree with others to replace.

Don't forget to correctly gap the plugs (0.8mm) before you fit them!
