clutch slip tried adjusting - sc0ttie - 16-04-15
I have had my FZS600 for about 7 weeks now, clutch has been slipping for a few weeks when i give it a handful between 5000 and 6000 rpm. I have tried several times adjusting the adjusting screw/nut behind the rubber grommet on the engine case but it never cures the problem.
What would be the next things to do as a process of elimination to try and sort this issue out? would i be best trying a new clutch cable next?

Try detaching it. If the cable moves smoothly and isn't showing signs of fraying at either end it's not likely to be the cause of your problem. A bit of WD40 to flush out any grit then some engine oil to lubricate it is usually all mine needs.
The things more likely to cause a slipping clutch are:
1) contamination of the plates (especially if someone has used car oil with friction modifiers)
2) springs that have weakened with age… they're a bit marginal to begin with imho
3) rust in the actuator that converts the pull on the cable to a push on the clutch rod, you'll be able to feel that when moving it by hand when you've got the sprocket cover off. It should rotate and rise smoothly without much slop. If it feels rough or there's a lot of free play the ball bearings in there may need replacing (as well as some fresh grease).

Thanks very much for those posts, I will crack on with this advise at the weekend when i have plenty of time and hopefully find out why it is slipping, it's a real pain in the arse.

One simple test - loosen off the clutch at the lever end by at least a full turn of the dial and see if it still slips at those revs,
if it makes it a little better then it points to the sprocket cover thing needing cleaning and greased and the adjustments being made to the adjustment bolt thing!

I've had too much communication with focers over the years to realise we're too easily confused when you start using technical terms!
