what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - HovBiker - 07-04-15 So my bikes in bits in shed.plan was to change fork seals and oil on my 99 fzs. All going ok using guide on here until I just started to refill the oil. Book states 475 ml with 121mm air gap. Measured out 475 ml in plastic kitchen jug poured it in but it's way off the 121 mm air gap! ( more like 131mm from from top with tube fully in) What have I done wrong?am I just being thick? Is jug not accurate and should I just go with gap? Is the 121 measured to top of tube or from fluid to bottom of internal thread? Any idea's would be great as bikes now in bits and need in morning. Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - darrsi - 07-04-15 Mine did a similar thing, confused the hell out of me too? Go with the air gap, so they're at equal levels, and you should be fine. Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - HovBiker - 07-04-15 Cheers.so from top of oil to very top of tube? Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - darrsi - 07-04-15 Yep, just make sure it's NOT fully extended. :lol Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - mally00 - 07-04-15 hi mate just looked Haynes manual it says oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork spring removed and the leg fully compressed hope this will help Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - HovBiker - 07-04-15 Great help guys.thanks.so 121 with tube fully compressed into slider. Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - darrsi - 07-04-15 I apologise if I got that wrong, it wasn't intentional, my head's a bit frazzled from work today. :rolleyes Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - darrsi - 07-04-15 Makes sense now thinking about it, extend the legs and you'd have a massive air gap. Cheers Mally00 for spotting my error, I'll shut up now. :lol Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - darrsi - 07-04-15 Just out of curiosity, you haven't got adjusters on top of your forks have you? Because with adjusters the air gap is 132mm (00-03 bikes normally) I have a 2000 bike but with older forks on without adjusters (long story). Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - mally00 - 07-04-15 darrsi I would not have been able to do my fork seals if it was not for this site Re: what's gone wrong? urgent help please! - HovBiker - 07-04-15 All done . Bike ready to go. no adjusters on top. Thanks again lads. |
