Tick from cold - Pal - 06-04-15 Since I got my foxeye at 18000 miles there has always been a slight ticking when cold that goes away when warm. I finally got round to checking the valve clearances (24000 miles) and they were all in spec. What I did find is that number 2 spark plug was not even finger tight, I'm betting this is the source of my tick. I know I should have done a complete nut and bolt check when I first got the thing, but why do people who don't know how tight things should be do work on their bikes, if you can't tighten a spark plug up then you really should be taking it to the dealers for servicing. The upside is that they are the same plugs I'm using in my XRX, so I've just ordered some in bulk. Re: Tick from cold - darrsi - 06-04-15 You sure it's not cam chain noise, that'll go away when the oil is warmed up. Sounds a bit like a sewing machine. Not bad though that it took you 6000 miles to check ;-) First thing I done when I got my bike was go down one side and check nuts, bolts, anything really, then the other side then wheels, then do handlebars then finish with panels, rack etc Then it's fluids and petrol and away we go :-) And I got it from a mate, if I got it from a dealer I'd of checked it twice B-) Re: Tick from cold - Pal - 08-04-15 (06-04-15, 10:14 PM)darrsi link Wrote: You sure it's not cam chain noise, that'll go away when the oil is warmed up.If it's still there when I start it up again, I'll carry on looking, but I'm sure that the plug that loose would do it. Re: Tick from cold - Pal - 21-04-15 New plugs fitted and tick is gone. Re: Tick from cold - darrsi - 21-04-15 :thumbup Re: Tick from cold - clayt74 - 21-04-15 Could have tightened the old ones?? Re: Tick from cold - Pal - 23-04-15 I could, but after 25,000 miles they were getting past their peak! |
