New Chain and +1 front sprocket - Gav - 12-03-15 Decided to treat myself to a new DID X O Ring gold chain and sprocket set but also wanted to try a +1 (16T) front sprocket. Really impressed with the new gearing and love the smooth feel I have restored with the overhaul. I cleaned and re greased all the suspension roller bearings in the linkages and swing arm too, while it was all apart. before while bombing I mean commuting down the M27, I'd go for another gear only to realise I was in top gear already. Now it feels just right and can cruise 70-80 without the engine revving it's nuts off. Far more relaxing. Also I don't get that awkwardness of wanting to change gear while picking up speed out of a junction or round about. Can hang on a bit longer before changing up. Well happy but wish I'd gone to a 16T sooner! +1 front sprocket recommended! Also just got bike MOT'd and sailed through. Excellent! ![]() ![]() Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - Chris - 12-03-15 Nice one, might go for +1 on the front when it comes time to change the sprockets. Any noticeable drop in acceleration? Cheers, Chris Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - Gav - 12-03-15 Cheers Chris. No obvious acceleration disappointment no. I mean you get more of a torque acceleration feel with the higher gearing but it's still fun if you give it some welly. Only a bit more clutch slip feeding to get going in 1st. Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - fazersharp - 12-03-15 I wonder if this a a mod the insurance need to know about Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - Paulfzs - 14-03-15 i went to 70 on rear tyre and that made a huge difference, pulled to 120kmh* nice and smooth Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - Millietant - 14-03-15 I'm with Gav on this - the 600 is very low geared in standard trim, revving far too high at motorway cruising speeds for my liking. If I want max overtaking power, I'm happy to use the gears as a trade off for relaxed cruising and better mpg. Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - johnakay - 14-03-15 I did that on my old Fazer. not notice any difference on accelerating. a lot smoother at around the 70/80mph . if I remember rightly rev's dropped by 200/300. also improved mpg to. insurance wont be bothered with this mod. if you went faster etc then they probably would. Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - Sannox - 18-03-15 Just about to change the chain n sprockets on mine, might try this +1 on the front sprocket, I do some motorway milage, usually the whole length of the M4 when heading for Dover and France and fed up of the higher than needed revs in top when cruising along at 70 honest :-) Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket - Davew - 24-03-15 Just about to fit a plus 1 on the front of my fazer too. I'm fitting it on my existing chain to test how it feels. I'm presuming a standard length chain should be ok as long as it can be adjusted to have the recommended slack? Will replace chain and both sprokets soon, but wanted to see how it rode with the different gearing first. Standard length (110 links) chain is ok. With front +1 front sprocket, rear axle goes forward ~4mm.
