outboard boat motor - red98 - 08-03-15 any outboard motor experts on here ? Re: outboard boat motor - chaz - 08-03-15 Hi I'm not an expert but I think it goes on a boat? Re: outboard boat motor - kitcrazy - 08-03-15 what's the problem with it red? Re: outboard boat motor - noggythenog - 08-03-15 Red...you've wheely been quite silly there Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 08-03-15 (08-03-15, 05:36 PM)kitcrazy link Wrote: what's the problem with it red? ah..mr crazy, boat owner.bought this a few weeks back and got it started today.....its a 2 stroke 5hp, iam not sure if the pump is pumping enough water , I only get a dribble, not much better when I increase the revs, ive had a look on youtube and everyone seams to be getting a good stream.......iam thinking worm impeller but it is just a guess... Re: outboard boat motor - kitcrazy - 08-03-15 yer impellers get brittle and break up.take it out and if there's bits missing then flush it out and replace :thumbup Re: outboard boat motor - HarryHornby - 08-03-15 for a man of your years.... only getting a dribble..... must be prostate..... Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 08-03-15 cheers harry.i'll get that looked at aswell :rolleyes....had a bit of fun testing .mrs red not impressed with my offer of doing the washing up at the same time :lol Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 08-03-15 Cheers mel....dont know my way round outboards, but looking on tinternet I think the pumps in the lower section, bought a cylmer manual the other week I'll sort it out and start reading.......cheers matey :thumbup Re: outboard boat motor - kitcrazy - 08-03-15 no prob mate have you give up on rowing then? That will push a dingy along nicely to the pub and back :thumbup Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 08-03-15 Still doing the kayaking.ive bought the rib to do excatly that, lazy summer days on the thames cruising from pub to pub with my son at the helm.....looking forward to it......only one rib to go for, now let me think, what make is it ??????? Re: outboard boat motor - kitcrazy - 08-03-15 you have to take the lower section off and the impeller should be in a little box thingy.be careful the cast can crack easy. Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 08-03-15 Ok, thanks for that.i'll take it easy.. ![]() Re: outboard boat motor - Frosties - 08-03-15 Can't believe no one has mentioned motor boating Re: outboard boat motor - Skippernick - 08-03-15 Might also just be full of salt in the tubes if it was used in the sea, lots of fresh water running would help that. Out boards are easy just take the lid off and you'll recognise most of it. Striping the leg is more complicated but a man of you calibre should cope. ![]() Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 08-03-15 Motor looks super clean, was used on a tender on the thames, pretty sure its not seen any salt water.watched a few vids on youtube, most recomend changing impeller every couple of years, looks fairly straight forward and the parts are cheap ![]() Re: outboard boat motor - Skippernick - 09-03-15 (08-03-15, 10:34 PM)red98 link Wrote: Motor looks super clean, was used on a tender on the thames, pretty sure its not seen any salt water.watched a few vids on youtube, most recomend changing impeller every couple of years, looks fairly straight forward and the parts are cheap Ah well in that case its full of poo. Seriously the lower part of the Themes is tidal so still a possibility but impeller is most likely. Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 09-03-15 hi skippernick.....so,looks like new impeller and a good flush out ,will post some piccies when its stripped down :thumbup Re: outboard boat motor - ChristoT - 09-03-15 Could be a clean out job, but my memory of those Mariner 5hp's is that they don't widdle out much anyway? Only a little engine, so doesn't need so much cooling. As for whether it was used - I've seen loads of outboards in Turkey on boats which are cosseted beasts - do ship to shore runs twice daily for a week, laid up after a run in a bucket of fresh water, then sit on the back rail for the rest of the year! Like anything, a strip down can't hurt! Re: outboard boat motor - red98 - 09-03-15 Straight out to the garage after work 30 mins later and its stripped down, impeller has lost all its blades, ive found a few of them but will flush out the lower leg and see what I can find.came apart easy , no corrosion on any of the bolts/ fittings, all looking fairly clean, impeller housing has a small mark but think it will be ok.....so, next question ![]() |
