new engine, changing mileage? - Paulfzs - 02-03-15 not really a problem but i changed my engine a few months back and the clocks are reading at 48,000 but the engine only has 21,000 on it, is it possible to reset the clocks to get them back to 21,000? had a speedo problem on an old bike where the speedo stopped working for about 2,000 miles so had a drill on the cable to get it up to the correct mileage. as i say its not a massive problem i just have to note down the mileage its gained since the change and add it to the total on the engine. Re: new engine, changing mileage? - BBROWN1664 - 03-03-15 Not legal to reduce the mileage on the odometer. The chassis has still done 48K even if the engine hasn't. Re: new engine, changing mileage? - darrsi - 03-03-15 Yeah, it's not just about the engine is it, the whole bike has still gone through all weathers and daily abuse, so as a buyer it would be unfair to be told the bike had only done less than half its mileage. (not that you would do that of course ![]() |
