power, but not turning over. - lincs1963 - 18-02-15

Got a bit of a strange one, Y reg thou, spent most of last 3 months tucked up in the garage. Wheeled it out today to access some of the other junk we store in the garage, thought "may as well fire up the bike while it's out". Key in ignition, fuel pump, exup etc whirry noises, push starter button and .............nowt!
First things I checked, kill switch in on position, check.
It does have an immobiliser fitted should I suspect this or am I just being a div and overlooking summats obvious?
Any suggestions greatly received chaps, thanks, Neil.

Sounds like a flat battery. Just not enough power in it to turn the starter.

Good point, I connected up the trickle charger this morning and I'm going to leave it on all day and see if it helps.
Thanks for the suggestion mate.

Apparently batteries dont like the cold. I always take mine out & store in my under the stairs cupboard over winter....well it worked on my 600 without putting a single charge into the battery.....fingers crossed the thou is the same.

Perhaps a combo of the cold plus the immobiliser has slowly drained yours to death.

It's fixed! Battery was reading 11.8 volts and not even the solenoid was clicking in and out, 4 hours on charge and now reading 12.6 volts. Pushed the button, bike sparked up straight away.
Another thing that I have discovered is that the key has to go the right way round into the ignition barrel or engine will turn over but not start , it's a replacement key and the chip is over to one side.
Anyway thanks for the pointers, thats another foccer mobile again.
