HELP! - Topshot89 - 01-02-15
My clocks have died on my 08 fz1. I can find replacements online but my model is a parallel import with no immobiliser and all the uk clocks have an immobiliser light. Does anyone know if this will cause a problem should I put a set of these clocks on to my bike?

What do you mean died?

No display or rev counter. All that is working is the warning lights and turn signals

Have you tried drying them out thoroughly first?
Remove them from the bike and use a hairdryer to dry them out properly, just be careful not to use the hairdryer on its hottest settung. You have got to remove them anyway to replace them so I would try that first.

Ive had the clocks off the bike and stripped them down, dried and cleaned all visible damage. Im not keen on electronics so I paid to have them all checked and have been told all look spot on

If the electronics are checking out ok then as unfazed says check the fuse, replace the fuse with another one to make fuse is not the fault. Then pull every connector apart and check every connector for water ingress and corrosion and that they fit back together properly.
All these checks cost nothing but time, don't spend on replacement clocks until you are definitely sure.
Could the guy who checked the clocks check them out fitted to the bike? That way might show what the actual fault is.

The multimeter is served by a red/green feed & black ground wire.
The 1st place to look & prone to corrosion is the 6 way connector block ( of which the r/g & bk wire can be found ) under the leftside fairing infill panel.
Separate the plug & socket & look for signs of corrosion. Hopefully you'll find some, carefully clean the contacts using contact cleaner & a small screwdriver until clean metal can be seen. Finally, coat with some dielectric grease.

To add to the posts from dekf and Slappy.
Two fuses supply the Clocks, the backup fuse and the Ignition fuse.
The backup fuses supplies a permanent 12v on a Reg/Green wire to the clocks and the Ignition fuse supplies 12volts on a Red/White wire to the clocks when the ignition is switched on. The black is the earth or negative.
If there is no power on where there should be, or no earth trace the cable back under the tank and check each connector in turn for corrosion.

Be interested to know why your original clocks died , corrosion? circuit board fault? Or just plain bad luck?

I would be interested in knowing also since it is not a common problem.
What did you do with the old clocks?
If you are throwing them out, throw them my way and I can check them out.

I think the OP means that he put the originals back on.....does he???
If so then what fixed them???
I need to stock up on some of this contact cleaner & dielectric grease & go through all my connectors.
