LoFos: government wankers! A - ChristoT - 26-11-14

All Foccers with Gen 1 machines, take action! If not, we're going to get clobbered. I'm guessing this will affect half the couriers too!

Grasping bastards. I go ther infrequently but choose to go on my bike rather than the train or car due to ease of getting about. Although I have a car that is exempt I still prefer to ride.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - ChristoT - 26-11-14

The irony is: it'll either hit the couriers hard, or they'll just ride around this ULEZ bullshit zone, thereby creating more emissions!! This "green" thing is a complete scam. Thievery under the pretense of ecology. Disgusting.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - esetest - 26-11-14

As most vehicles over 7 years old are driven or ridden by low earners who can't afford new vehicles its another tax on the working poor , whilst pretending it  will help  the environment , and at the same time wanting to expand Heathrow .

Oh well, now where did I put that false plate.  :evil

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - Exupnut - 26-11-14

It's JUST a proposal atm and it's only city/west end. Shud make some scummy despatchers smarten up a bit.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - Rikki - 26-11-14

"The proposed introduction date is September 2020, by which time affected machines will be 13 years old"

You wont need a 7 year old bike, a 12 year old one will do, and you've got 6 years to save up for it!

Would be a shame if London became a classic-free zone though.

Good point. No more 2 stroke meets at the Ace Café etc.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - tex - 26-11-14

..What if you change your exhaust on a new bike? They will have to be imitions tests on bikes.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - BIG MAC - 27-11-14

If they want to reduce noxious emissions in London...shut Parliament and send Mellor to the moon

Ace cafe is miles away from the proposed zone so it won't affect any meets.
However, it will probably affect things like the Christmas toy run etc (probably just change the route though)

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - chaz - 27-11-14

Emissions will become part of the MOT before then, so get looking for that cat?

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - nick crisp - 27-11-14

Quote:TfL buses and taxis contribute a large proportion of emissions on an individual basis because of their high mileage and the dominance of diesel within the fleets.

How often do you see buses in London spewing out great clouds of black smoke? So now they will actually be required to do something about this? So one of the knock-on effects will be higher fares to pay for bus servicing/replacement I guess. What other consequences will this ULEZ have?

And how long before other cities choose (because revenue) or are forced (because Europe) to do this?

Life is about to become a lot more expensive (again) for a lot of people.

Brilliant - I work in the city and I like commuting on my 2000 ZX9R!

Joe, not being funny or anything, but you can probably afford it a lot better than some. What about shop workers, restaurant workers, cleaners, etc etc, who commute in? So projecting it to conclusion, they all have to look for work elsewhere, so shops and services in London start to go out of business because they can't hire low wage staff anymore. So when you take your next lunch break and all the restaurants have closed, I guess you'll be reaching for the sandwiches that you packed before work? Better take some cleaning materials for the office too.

Seems to me that excluding a few older motorcycles will be the least of this ruling's effects.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - Dead Eye - 27-11-14

I can't see it causing any sort of major employment crisis. For one, London is massive and two, motorcycles make a very small percentage of traffic. The bus fare increase may affect some, but that's just guesswork so far as we don't know if it will happen (the fare increase that is) nor by how much.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - nick crisp - 27-11-14

What about lorries and vans that deliver in the proposed zone? Costs of running and maintaining fleets of newer vehicles? What will those companies do to cover their increased costs? Raise their charges? So what will, for example, small grocery stores/news agents/supermarkets do to cover those costs? Raise prices for the goods they sell? There are a lot of potential knock-on effects from this. As said, a few older motorcycles being charged will be the smallest of these effects.

Re: LoFos: government wankers! A - Dead Eye - 27-11-14

I'm still not convinced, the large majority of these sorts of vehicles (HGVs, Vans, Buses) aren't especially old (as far as I am aware - it would be interesting to see statistics) so I doubt there will be many that will be affected by the new charges in any extreme way

I would expect buses and maybe small vans to be the most affected of which that is likely to affect the small business owner - typical. Larger businesses are likely to have a more modern fleet
