rear shock removal - fazerblue - 21-11-14
hi a bit stuck went to remove my rear shock everything undone until i went to take the nut off the top of the shock which is attached to the frame as the nut is in line with the frame cannot use a socket even with the socket attachment that pivats as it wont hold straight with the amount of force needed and the nut is in too far for a spanner is there a tool to remove this or am i missing the obvious thanks.

nope you are missing nothing that's quite an accurate summary.
either a socket with a universal joint or a spanner with a tube over it for more leverage. torquing up is equally awkward.

I can confirm it is a right bastid to get to.
I was lucky as I have a mate who has a massive amount of unusual tools to do the job.

I found a spanner and muscle were enough! Was a bit of a b!tch to be fair!

Yamaha put it there as a test of patience...I must have removed my rear shock 10 times...over the years ...and its still awkward ...

one bit i found odd was when refitting the shock its recommended torque is 40 nm but when i went to tighten it up it was at its tightest before 40 nm
