A2 Licence abroad? - Blisteredfingerz - 04-11-14 Bonjour! Does any clued up foccer know if you can ride an A2 criteria fitting motorbike in France on a restricted A2 licence. My brother in law (22) is taking his A2 test soon and we would like a little 2 day jaunt to France. The only info I can find is from forums predating these new test/age rules and regs so unsure if correct. Any input greatly appreciated. Re: A2 Licence abroad? - andybesy - 04-11-14 I'm also struggling to find a definitive answer, but I'm guessing the answer will be yes, because it's a proper license/category/entitlement, not a provisional one, and is therefore honoured in Europe. I'd advise phoning and asking a) your training school b) the insurance company and c) the DVLA But hopefully the answer should be yes! Andy Here's a list of pages under gov.uk about driving abroad: https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?q=site:gov.uk+driving+abroad#q=site:gov.uk+driving+abroad Re: A2 Licence abroad? - ChristoT - 04-11-14 The answer is yes. I was able to ride my 125 (and later my 600) on a full UK license in France with power restriction. If it's a pink license (rather than the green provisional), your brother in law will be fine. Plus, you need to remember the average French bobby isn't likely to be clued up about UK power requirements... ![]() Re: A2 Licence abroad? - J_Dub - 04-11-14 Yes he will be able to ride with an A2 licence in France. The A2 license category was introduced as part of an EU directive to standardise driving licences across europe - although there are some exceptions such as age limits. French plod now knows exactly what you are entitled to ride. http://www.eubusiness.com/topics/transport/driving-licence-2/ http://www.fiaregion1.com/en/fia_region_1/news/introduction_of_3rd_eu_driving_licence_directive_welcomed_by_fia.htm Re: A2 Licence abroad? - Blisteredfingerz - 04-11-14 Thanks for all the replies chaps. Much appreciated. Safe riding foccers. ![]() Re: A2 Licence abroad? - BBROWN1664 - 05-11-14 Yes. I took my son with his restricted ER-5 there last year for a few days of tarmac enjoyment. |
