Steering stem - mac1984 - 21-10-14

Hi all.
Is the fzs600 steering stem the same as the fzs1000 stem?
I'm currently looking into fitting r1 front end from 2005 model but all of the info I've so far relates to fitting to a fzs1000. Is there much difference between the fzs600 and fzs1000?

Not the same stem.
Swapping front ends is doable, if your bikes laid up for the winter that will be easier as it would mean grinding out the stems from the front ends and swapping them over and welding in place.
You've then got to consider the difference in fork leg length in order to have the bike sit right.
Will you drill out the yokes and refit original bars or fit R1 clip ons?
These will interfere with the fairing at lock and reduce low speed turning circle, if you don't have a friendly mot tester he can fail on this.
Will you also fit R1 wheel?
If keeping the fazer wheel then spacers will need to be made.
If R1 wheel you'll need someway of fitting the fazer speedo into the new wheel.

Anything like this can be done, just understand it will never be a straight swap.

I've seen on the fazer 1000 pages they press out the stem from their original yoke and press it into the r1 bottom yoke and the line drill and pin it for added security.

I don't have to worry about fairing in my fazer as ive taken it off and going the naked route. So running my renthal flat bar should be fine.

I'll be using a 5 spoke r1 front wheel from a 2004-2006 model.

I've heard a few people mention that there is a few fzs600's running r1 front ends. I'm just trying to find some info on them.

I think there's more with plans to do it than have actually done it lol.
I have a thundercat front end on mine which is why I've mentioned the above couple of things to think about.
I don't know how the R1 speedo fits in the wheel but it was easy to file away the fazer speedo drive to fit the T'cat wheel!

I think pressing the fazer stem into the r1 bottom yoke would be the best option as the bearings will all be right. May need to space the top yoke judging by what the fazer 1000 guys are doing.
Getting the Speedo pick up in to the r1 wheel may be more of a challenge.
