Yeah, nice eh. Really pleased about that as a bit of a fan of the XJR series.

Although the exhaust needs to be shiny and the tail tidy needs to go.

An XJR is top of the "maybe list" for my next bike, if I ever upgrade from the Fazers. I've ridden one a few times and although not massively powerful it has good torque and is fun to ride. Need a screen though.

Step backwards in the looks department imo. The older one looks way better.

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - bri h - 30-09-14

theyve brought back the old single cylinder 400 thumper as well. looks like a fun second/ comuter bike.

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - stevierst - 30-09-14

Eh I like that 8)

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - flesh - 30-09-14

I've just sold an older XJR. Fantastic bikes. Almost bought a café racer customised model from Flea bay which looked like the new model.
Like the look of the new version except that massive gargantuous exhaust that they have put on it.
Does nothing for the styling.

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - stevierst - 30-09-14

I think they have to put these daft oversize cans on for all the noise strangling regs these days. Bloody tree Huggers ruining the streamlined looks of motorcycles!

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - Kosmic Kartman - 30-09-14

Overall I'm not that keen, especially the one with the bubble fairing. Ugly as fuk IMO. I do however like the blue and white/silver retro style tank. As mentioned that tail tidy looks naff and that does it no favors... no grab rail for pillions and to my mind the bike should be a two up comfort touring muscle bike.

I hope Yamaha aren't still using the original clutch slave cylinder which was always prone to doing seals. The original pipes on the 1200 weren't that loud either so why the huge cans? Noise and emissions.

I've recently sold my 1200 and I think they're still a way more better looking bike than this new version.

I believe that the EU bless them are trying to kill air cooled bikes hence the huge worst to get it through testing.

Looks bloody aweful , not for me  :eek

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - Lez72 - 30-09-14

I love the look of this. In my opinion the naked one is much nicer than the bikini faired model as the lines just don't seem to flow as nicely. I'd agree that it really needed to be more pillion friendly though.

Ditching the standard exhaust for a more sporty version would have to be the first mod though.

Blue is best  :b

I used to have an XJR1300, I bought it for touring 2 up. I had it 6 years and did 50,000 miles on it. I thought it was a great bike and only sold it because I wanted something with better wind/weather protection.

The exhaust looks the same as the previous year, only painted black.
The tank is now 14.5 litres, it was 21 litres. I used to get 45mpg so that's 64 miles tank range gone.
I bought the bike as I took a pillion regularly, that new seat looks a lot poorer for comfort 2 up. But you gain that ugly bracket for the number plate/mudguard as it has to overhang the back of the rear tyre for legal reasons. You also loose a large cubby hole the old bike had. Although I do like the styling of the seat, without the seat cover.
No grab rail.
The headlight cowling looks as bad as the original one you could get for the old model.
The old larger diameter headlight looks better than the new smaller one.
Any suspension upgrades are welcome although it had Ohlins rear shocks before.
I don't like the side panels at all, they seem out of place.
New slightly higher bars I can get on with but the clip-ons of the racer a no-no.
The new instrument panel doesn't give you anything more than the old one from what I can make out.
The centre stand seems to have gone.

Overall, I don't like it.

I'm with Didier...

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - Dead Eye - 01-10-14

I'm definitely not a fan of the new styling - I have seen a couple of older modded XJR's which looked very nice, but I'm not totally sold on the standard looks of the old ones either :\ I'm so fussy with bike designs apparently... I can get on board and fall in love with car designs much easier

Re: New XJR Released - yummy. - Kosmic Kartman - 01-10-14
