Fazer fork conversion - Pip - 23-09-14 Evening All Am trying to fit upside down forks (4xv 5jj) to my 02 Fazer 1000. Am using a R1 bottom yoke and a Fazer Gen 2 top yoke. Yokes have been professionally altered to fit. Am not confident about this. Has anyone else tried this combination? Any probs I should know about? Any advice appreciated. Re: Fazer fork conversion - Falcon 269 - 23-09-14 Take a look here if you haven't already seen this thread: http://fazer1000.yuku.com/topic/3408/R1-Fork-Conversion-Guide My experience is with the R1 top and bottom yokes, so I don't know for sure about the finer points of using the Gen 2 top yoke. However, it's a common option and works well, so probably easier than what I did. ![]() If you have had the Gen 1 steering stem installed in the R1 lower yoke, and spacers provided as part of the professional alteration, then all you have to do is alter the steering lock stops (possibly not necessary with the Gen 2 top yoke), sort out the ignition switch swap and fit the R1 fork legs to the yokes. You may need to get different brake lines if the originals aren't the right length. Like any mod of this kind, a certain degree of 'suck it and see' comes into the process but you're following a proven path, so no major pitfalls await you. Re: Fazer fork conversion - sadlonelygit - 23-09-14 you need to make sure the fork offset is the same for both yokes otherwise you'll have problems. Re: Fazer fork conversion - devilsyam - 24-09-14 Gen2 upper won't work with older r1 bottom you need fz1 bottom or 8 or 08+ r1 but these you can't pin as in mikes method you need a sleeve welding in Re: Fazer fork conversion - Pip - 24-09-14 Thanks to all for the info. It's suggested that the gen 2 yokes won't work. Any details as to why? Re: Fazer fork conversion - sadlonelygit - 24-09-14 i'll keep it simple for you R1/FZ1 yokes won't fit straight in, the steering stems are different. you have to remove the stem from the R1/FZ1 yokes and fit a fazer stem, which has a maginally smaller od than the R1 stem (don't know about FZ1) so has to be fixed in place by either a rollpin or making up a sleeve to provide an interferance fit. it is not a simple bolt on job! HTH Re: Fazer fork conversion - devilsyam - 24-09-14 both are right but wrong ill try to explain gen1 stem in older lower r1 yoke with pin method but cant use gen 2 upper gen 1 stem into fz1 or late r1 bottom will go but pin method wont work as sad said the stem is smaller this require a bit of machine shop work stem needs 2mm machining off and a 3mm top hat bush making this is then welded onto the fazer stem then remachining down to bearing size sounds epic but not really my local engineering shop have done 7 of these now cost is £160 but the advantage is no cutting of the lock stops and you can use gen2 top yoke which makes the whole conversion look more factory |
