Possible return to the Fazer 1000 clan - clanadam - 19-08-14

Hi folks,

I'm considering changing my 2004 FZ6 for a Fazer 1000. I owned a 2001 model for 9 yrs and loved it but was seduced by an interest free Repsol Blade (she is a tart!). I've been looking here to try to get the "right" one but haven't quite got there yet. I'd like a 2004/2005 model with < 20,000 miles on the clock, ideally Ivanised already but that may not be needed if I can sort a bike and grab one of Mike's Scotland slots! I'm looking to spend up to £2,500 but prefer closer to £2,000. Black or silver is preferred but won't rule out the others. I'm prepared to travel a bit for the right bike (within reason).

Options are to try to get one privately then sell the FZ6 privately or see what I can get through a dealer. Do you reckon I'm aiming too low and need to up the max price to get the right bike?

Thanks,

Kenny

P.S. Big hello to all the "oldies" that know me from before  :b

Welcome back.....this is on Gumtree Glasgow a bit older and higher mileage than you'd prefer but at the right price...a good starting point as a bench mark....there is a cracking black one for sale on here too if you're prepared to travel

Thanks m8 that's an excellent start. It is a little older and higher mileage than I'd like but that's not to rule it out. If I remember correctly the 25K service is a biggy as the valve clearances need checking? In that case may be better if that's been done already.

Being local is obviously also a big advantage!

Have you seen this one....£2,100 for a 2004 and a lot less mileage...could be worth a wee haggle due to its location

Yeah it does look good but I'm just a little concerned about the lack of evidence on the mileage. I'm sure Lee won't have touched it but the previous owner may have. Could be a bargain (even with the hassle of getting it) or could be a risk - hard to tell!

Im not sure about isle of man.....but mainland you can look up a vehicle online to see previous MOT's  and they should have the mileage recorded on each one.

Failing that you can do a proper check for a few quid.

I suppose that's the same with all second hand bike purchases and unless you test ride it you'll never know...you can check the mileage through the government MOT website as that has a history of the all the recorded annual mileages.

Service history and receipts means sweet foc all as these can be obtained by a number of means.....did you know that my service history has a complete rebuild every six weeks and have spent over £27k on parts labour and modifications....I have the receipts to prove it too :rolleyes

Hi Kenny!

Good to see you here, fella.  Happy hunting and welcome back to the fold ... I'll keep a slot aside for you in September. Smile

Thanks Mike - not "properly back" yet but I can see it coming if I can get the right deal!

It's not a 2004.  2004 models have tuning fork on the tank not 'YAMAHA'.

I thought black was one of the original colours (2001?)

It may well be the older model but not registered until 2004

It is, it's either 2001 or 2002.  And it's on a private plate.
Just makes you wonder.

Yup too many red flags sadly. Might still be a good in but too risky...

Re: Possible return to the Fazer 1000 clan - clanadam - 25-08-14

So after a bit of searching I finally decided to trade in the FZ6 for a 2005 CBR600F4 (not quite a Fazer 1000 but has only 8000 miles on the clock) - should be picking it up later this week hopefully. Maybe I'll need to justify to SWMBO that I really need 3 bikes and could continue looking for a thou  :b

Nice bikes, always wondered what they'd be like to own.  Hope you like it, mate. Smile

Photo when you get it?
