Excessive vibration & Whining - Frosties - 07-08-14
Hiya fellas,
As per title i'm getting a lot of vibration across the whole bike (pegs, tank, bars) and vibration/whining across the entire rev range when under load or on a closed throttle decelerating. This happens in any gear and at any speed.
The vibration totally goes when the clutch is pulled in.
The tyres are new and wouldn't explain the de-clutch side. All engine bolts checked - tight. Chain checked - no tight links or excessive play.
Idles very sweetly with no noise or whining when blipped on stand.
Recent oil change so no issue their. Carbs also balanced.
Am starting to think gearbox but would be grateful of any thoughts.

my divvy had a whine but only in 6th, no idea why.. made it sound a bit like an electric bike.
I have some vibration but its not too bad.

I suppose it could be a bearing somewhere in the gearbox whining, but I would say with a high degree of certainty that the issue does not lie with the gears themselves. If it's happening when both accelerating and decelerating then the same problem would need to exist on both flanks of the teeth, as the drive would move from drive to coast when you cut the throttle.
I'm not sure of how you would go about confirming or otherwise it is gearbox bearings without actually taking the thing apart and looking - so probably best to eliminate all the easier stuff first like your doing with the chain etc before you go delving in.
What's the mileage just out of interest?

or do what i did, louder exhaust and ignore the hell out of it.
if it goes bang you know you had a real problem, if it dosen't go bang.. problem solved.

I know it's an example Darrsi but it's also a possibility of a gearbox seizing which I don't fancy. Think I've checked everything it could be. The only way to be sure is open heart surgery which is out of my capabilities and will probably cost an arm & a leg - even with my mechanic at £35/hr. Once the issue is found it's still a fair cost to sort. Other option is a replacement engine but only if I know the history and then a good couple of hundred for the lump alone.
I've had a weird desire for ABS for some time now so it could be the answer by chopping it in - 2 issues sorted in one go.
Will probably mull it for a while and keep an eye out for a replacement lump.

I've used them a few times before with bits and bobs, i have no idea about warranty but i'm sure a quick call could sort that out.
I think they're quite a good company.

Don't believe that mileage for a minute Darrsi. It looks hammered :lol
Looks like it's the clutch so get it stripped and repair the faulty bearing/part or go for a complete new clutch hmmmmmm. Still not spannering to that degree so need to look at costs or out it!
