Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - Fazafou - 28-07-14 Hi all, Wanting to fettle the bike more, but haven't quite got the money at the moment to go the whole hog and get a PCIII / V and go for remapping, so does anyone know the limit of modding that I can do, without affecting the performance negatively. I've read about people carrying out the airbox mod, de-cat, remove EXUP valve etc, Is it ok to carry out any of these on a stock bike? I know putting a PC etc will always get the most out of mods, but it's still good to tinker sometimes, as long as it at least wont be detrimental to the performance. Cheers, Rob. Re: Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - slappy - 28-07-14 Put an aftermarket end can on and a k&n air filter, cost about £250 depending on which can you pick, this will get rid of the exup valve and the cat in the original end can. There is another cat in the headers but I personally would not remove that without something on the bike to remap , likewise with the airbox mod. Those are the mods I have done so far plus I fitted a 2nd hand Juice Box Pro off ebay, very similiar to a Power Commander but you cannot add things to it like quickshifter etc, but you can use PC maps in it .So far I have spent £320 and whilst power gains are probably minimal the bike runs so much smoother and pickup at lower revs is vastly improved so I am pretty happy. Re: Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - Fazafou - 28-07-14 Cheers for that, the juice box looks pretty interesting. Wouldn't be fussed with quickshifter so might be a better option once I get the readies together. Re: Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - slimwilly - 28-07-14 I would say the one to do and very cheap is the one tooth less on the front sprocket, same effect as about 10 bhp extra on acceleration,, Re: Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - Fazafou - 29-07-14 Used to do the sprocket swap on my old 600s, but think it would knock mpg too heavily on this, although I guess any 'performance' mod will have this affect in some way. Re: Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - ogri48 - 02-08-14 I've never done the sprocket mod for that reason, these bikes havnt got much tank range as is Re: Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - devilsyam - 02-08-14 tbh very little difference but the plus grin factor priceless Re: Gen II mods that don't require map updates? - stevierst - 02-08-14 Fitting a 16t front knocked 2-3 mpg off mine over 4 tankfulls corrected by speedodrd. I dipped below 37mpg regular, and less than 110 miles range. If I was keeping the bike, I'd go back to a 17. |
