What a shit design, alarm battery dies with no warning and your bike is totaly immobilised, great if you happen to be miles from anywhere. Whatever twat came up with that idea needs his bollocks removing with a blunt spoon!!!
Luckily mine died in the garage but my understanding of all things electrical is absolute shite and its booked in for the MOT on Tuesday. Dont suppose there is anyone in the Northampton area that knows how to disconnect a meta alarm is there????

How old is the alarm?
Which model Meta is it and I will PM you the bypass for it.
Easy to do with 2 pieces of wire once you know where to put them

Check my blog. Mine did same. It's a half hour job to replace control unit. About £120 parts though.

Take it out and remove the wiring plug. Undo the two screws, they are anti tamper and require a bit of effort to open.
Remove the 2 plastic holder where the screws were
Peal back the rubber seal and unclip the plug or plugs
One large black Plug it is a Meta 357
One large black plug and one small white one then it is a Meta 357T-V2
Let me know which you have.
As Arfa says you could buy a new one (if it has 2 plugs) and fitting is reverse of the above.
Companies like Abacus Alarms sell replacement units for when the batteries fail. The internal battery should last about 7 to 10 years.

Same thing happened with mine. I tried stripping it out of the bike but I'm not electrically minded enough. I ended up using the same method as Unfazed, but from a different source. After knowing it restored the bike a cut the wiring further from the alarm and removed the box.
These bikes are 11-16 years old now so you'd expect the battery or something else to start going wrong now.
The whole experience has put me off alarms now.

If you consider a replacement, costs between £100 and £200 pounds and lasts 7 to 10 years, I would think that is good value for money especially in the electronics fields. Batteries like the ones in the Meta have a life of 7 to 10 years.
Having a Cat 1 Alarm installed gives me an insurance discount of around £40 a year and I have the alarm in the 600 for 10 years, I think it has more than paid for itself
I have bought brand new Metas for as little as £70.
The Meta 357T -V2 is probably the best Category 1 alarm out there when it is fitted correctly

It has the small white plug so Im assuming it is the 357t-v2. Not fussed about replacing it so if you could PM me the bypass for it, that would be excellent cheers.

Cheers for all the input. Special thanks to Unfazed, your diagram and explanation was spot on. Ive managed to bypass the alarm so I can now get it MOT`d. I think I will take your advice and order a new one, £130 isnt much for the peace of mind and insurance benefits. Thanks again, I owe you a beer!! :thumbup

My Datatool System 3 is coming off next Wed...!!! Booked into Blade, Swindon.
Flaming thig is really doing my head in now; problems starting, engine cutting out when overtaking hard, tripple bleeping (tamper indicator) every time I disarm prior to starting!
Fingers crossed it'll solve all these symptoms... :\

Why not just bypass it, as far as I can remember it is a 5 to 10 minute job you could do yourself. Open the box and loop two set of pins. Then put the box on the ground and smash the box with a 2.5 lb hammer :lol

I've got an alarm. Makes a racket if the bike is moved. Never had a problem with it , easy to remove and you can get a new set of batteries in the Pound Shop.
