Oe brake disc question - solorider - 16-07-14

Can anyone tell me why material the oe discs are made of, the reason is I have some new pads but they only work on stainless steel discs, as the Japanese stainless steel is low grade it is magnetic so that is not an easy way to tell.

I can't answer your question definitively but from some quick research - Almost all motorcycles now use Stainless Steel brake discs & Most sintered metal pads are designed specifically for use on stainless steel rotors - I'm using EBC HH Sintered pads which work fine so all the evidence points to the OEM disks being stainless. If you're concerned enough why not contact whoever you got the pads from or the pad manufacturers to ask whether they are suitable for your bike?

Stainless steel comes in a plethora of grades, & some are magnetic.
Unless you've got a 70's jota or guzzi it's most likely going to be stainless now

The pads I have are ferodo sintergrip road HH rated, I know these pads are for stainless discs only, and some jap bikes do use cast iron discs as standard.
