headlamp beam deflectors - red98 - 03-07-14 as above...anyone used them for riding in europe ? Re: headlamp beam deflectors - BBROWN1664 - 03-07-14 Are you mad? On a bike I have never used them. Come to that, I have never used them on the car or van either. Re: headlamp beam deflectors - limax2 - 03-07-14 In the past I have used black insulation tape to cut-off the left high part of the beam. This year I didn't bother with anything so tend to agree with Mr Brown above. Mind you mine is a 600 box-eye so unlikely to dazzle anybody! Re: headlamp beam deflectors - Red Ceri - 03-07-14 Never used them on either of my Fazers on the last few trips in Europe, have done most (if not all) my riding during the day so the light doesn't really piss off other road users as it would at night. Not planning on doing anything to mine for my trip to Malta unless anyone knows if the Frenchies, Austrians or Italians have issues with non corrected lights Re: headlamp beam deflectors - Fazafou - 03-07-14 I don't think its a requirement for bikes anyway as they have flatter beams than cars. Re: headlamp beam deflectors - esetest - 03-07-14 I have used them on the car , but have been advised not to bother with them on the upcoming Ypres trip . Re: headlamp beam deflectors - esetest - 03-07-14 I bought a spare bulb and fuse set from Fowlers for £10 , which I was advised to do as the French police can be arsey . Re: headlamp beam deflectors - red98 - 03-07-14 Thanks for repiles foccers......bbrown.....yes, iam a foc-u member :rolleyes........I'll wait till it gets dark and see what sort of beam ive got against the garage door............ parhaps thats what the boxeyes are for :lol :lol ... cheers limax, made me chuckle :lol :lo got a bulb kit from morrisons....£3.50....sorry esetest, dont forget you high vis and breath test kit ![]() Re: headlamp beam deflectors - esetest - 03-07-14 I wouldn't bother with the breath test kit , I checked on the AA site , and although its a legal requirement , the French police are not enforcing the fines . I'm gonna stick a vest under the seat just in case . I will see if they still have the spare bulb kit in my local Morrisons , if they have I will take mine back to Fowlers , I do love a bargain . ![]() (03-07-14, 06:03 PM)red98 link Wrote: Thanks for repiles foccers......bbrown.....yes, iam a foc-u member :rolleyes ........I'll wait till it gets dark and see what sort of beam ive got against the garage door............ parhaps thats what the boxeyes are for :lol :lol ... cheers limax, made me chuckle :lol :lo Re: headlamp beam deflectors - red98 - 03-07-14 You got to love a bargain ![]() ![]() Re: headlamp beam deflectors - apage16 - 04-07-14 Apparently even the Hi Viz vest requirement has been removed. But you do now need to have 4 reflective stickers on your helmet. :wall I'm taking in no less than 9 European countries at the end of this month. I've spent longer looking at all their individual rules than planning the accomodation for the trip! I think that's the case too. I used to use tape on my old bike, but never actually road in the dark. I've carried one of those for years. The low beam bulb blew (after 40,000 miles) in Croatia and the kit didn't have that bulb, just the main. Its a requirement to carry spares in Spain as well. Re: headlamp beam deflectors - BBROWN1664 - 04-07-14 I believe the breath kit law has been dropped now. Its a requirement to carry a spare bulb kit in France too so you can change the bulb at the roadside if one blows. Have you ever tried changing the headlight bulb on a 2002 Laguna? Remove both front wheels, remove wheel arch liners, remove front bumper and then, remove headlight to access the bulb. Good idea, its a requirement in many countries to carry one in case you breakdown and have to wait on the hard shoulder/kerbside I think. Re: headlamp beam deflectors - BBROWN1664 - 04-07-14 You do need a vest for if you break down on the motorway. You don't need to wear it though when riding. That law was dropped as well. |
