opinions please - Fizzy Pies - 07-06-14 Due to touring requirements I began to look for luggage, then snapped the sellers hand off for these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161322715719?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT turns out though that its not a tank bag, its a tail pack and im a bit gutted but am happy to keep the stuff as its brand new and i like it anyway. So I tried to mount it on the tank, and its not too bad, but how can i mount it any better? Your bike looks too nice to mark up. Re: opinions please - nick crisp - 07-06-14 I use one of those wonderweb/blanket thingies on my tank under the bag, then bungee it on around the frame as the magnets aren't very strong through the blanket. That looks very similar to the old Oxford Hump Back bags, which you could get a base conversion for - zip on, so might work, or maybe Yamaha do one for that particular bag? Mostly I bungee mine to the pillion seat though, again with the blanket underneath and protecting the tail unit. Re: opinions please - woodwizzard - 07-06-14 Could bungee it to the back of your other half ![]() Re: opinions please - Millietant - 07-06-14 Liz and I both use the Oxford tank bags on our trips - I genuinely think they're the best I've ever used and I'd suggest you look for one, rather than messing around. The magnetic base works perfectly on the Fazer 1000 (and the FJ 12) - it has side pockets, a zip on/off wallet holder and the bag itself can be used as a ruck-sack. Not sure if they're clear enough in the pic below, but we luv em. ![]() Re: opinions please - richfzs - 07-06-14 I used the same on my fazer (looks like it anyway), it's a great piece of kit. Much better than the givi job I use on the tiger (which I'm only using since the Oxford one doesn't fit the tank shape) Re: opinions please - stevierst - 10-06-14 Fizzy, you can get the magnetic tank bag conversion for that bag I believe, it'll save scratching your tank/frame to hell. They're interchangeable between tailpack, magnetic, and strap on (not that kind!) You might be lucky if you keep your eye out for one. And if your after a tail end soft luggage, Ventura is the dogs bollocks mate. And with a little bit of bending and tweeking, bandit 600 Ventura rails fit (top tip Re: opinions please - Punkstig - 10-06-14 (07-06-14, 08:27 PM)Fizzy Pies link Wrote: Brilliant idea nick, that will be purchased next time i see some and kept in the bag :thumbupMost pound shops have the rubber webbing- for a pound! Re: opinions please - kawasutra - 10-06-14 Probably what has been already suggested, but a cargo net over it, secured on frame? Re: opinions please - stevierst - 10-06-14 It's an Oxford part I believe. The humpback bags had interchangeable bases that zip off afaik that becomes the magnetic map pouch. They come up on fleabay every now and again, but try calling Oxford, they might have some left . Re: opinions please - nick crisp - 10-06-14 Fizzy, what size is the bag in litres? I'll have a rummage around at work on Thursday if you can let me know this. Also, if it's made by Oxford, lift all the strengthening walls inside (for when you extend it) and there should be a white label sewn in with the Oxford stock code, something like OL/OF120/140/whatever. And just to further check, can you confirm that the base does indeed zip off? Looks like it from your pics. Re: opinions please - Doddsie - 10-06-14 Orrrrr, you could just buy this off me! ![]() Re: opinions please - nick crisp - 10-06-14 (10-06-14, 09:15 PM)Fizzy Pies link Wrote: its a yam part guys YMD200109001. Difficult to say from the photos mate. It does look very similar to the Oxford ones (Humpback, as said) but also looks a little smaller than the one I used to have. Yam part no. doesn't help I'm afraid ![]() Might be able to do it on measurements of the base zip - approx. width x length? Re: opinions please - nick crisp - 10-06-14 (10-06-14, 09:57 PM)Fizzy Pies link Wrote: much change the yam zip wont fit the oxford one u reckon? Might help if you answered questions instead of asking them :lol No promises, just if I had a little info I could look around and see if we've got anything likely looking - all kinds of shit knocking around in the returns dept ![]() Re: opinions please - nick crisp - 11-06-14 (11-06-14, 05:12 AM)Fizzy Pies link Wrote: Approx 250mm x 330mm Ok, noted. Again, can't promise but I'll have a look around tomorrow. Re: opinions please - trpFZS1 - 11-06-14 Hi Fizzy Pies, I may possibly have the magnetic tank bag base you need. I have an Oxford Sports tail pack which I have had for years and bought a magnetic base off eBay which I hoped would fit. Unfortunately I was wrong as the pitch of the zip teeth is different. The tank bag base has large teeth and the tail pack I have has small teeth. See picture below which should clarify. Anyway, if your tail pack has large teeth, then you may be in luck and we can work out a plan to get it to you if interested. ![]() Re: opinions please - trpFZS1 - 11-06-14 No probs. hopefully you will find one. Cheers, Rich. Re: opinions please - nick crisp - 12-06-14 Sorry Fizzy, can't find any remaining stock of the item you want ![]() However, just in case it helps with your search, I have found out that the 2004 model humpback bags did use fine zips on the base. The item you require is, I am told, the OF526 Humpback Tailpack Conversion kit, for the OF520 series bags - also it seems we did make luggage for Yamaha at one time, so all seems to gel so far. Sorry, I think that's as far as I'm going to get :rolleyes |
