Rear caliper wont bleed - Fizzy Pies - 03-06-14

fzs600 bike with a thou caliper but cant get any stopping power on the back brake!  :eek :eek

getting clear fluid out both bleed nipples though so what am i doing wrong??

was working fine till i took it off to clean and had to let some fluid out a nipple to get the pistons to push back in

they are a pig to bleed, I use one of those one way bleeders of ebay, saying that if the master cylinder was doggy  letting the pressure out could have finished it of, happened on my old xjr when I put braided lines on, spent hours trying to bleed it,  Smile

Why did you have to open a bleed nipple, it should just flow back into master cylinder? when I changed the fluid in mine, I took the caliper off pushed the piston right in and wedged it there then pumped the old fluid out and added the new BEFORE it got air in, the reason I did it with the piston right in is that I thought there would be no space for the old fluid to remain, the same would also count for air in the caliper, well thats what I think but I'm no expert?

If its bleeding correctly and you still cant get a pedal there is still air in there ,pick up a syringe from your local vets and back bleed it from the nipple back to the master ,take care not to overtighten the bleed nipple you will stretch the threads in the caliper and air will keep getting in and fluid will weep out and you will keep going round in circles, also try getting a bit of heat into the caliper this makes the air rise to the highest point in the caliper and easier to bleed out ,also a couple of taps on the caliper with a rubber mallet to dislodge any trapped air .Just another thought did you clean the pistons before moving them back in the calipers ? a tiny spek of grit can damage the caliper seal again allowing air into the system  Wink

I've also found that air can get lodged in the banjo joints so I typically bleed from all of these connections from the master cylinder back to the caliper - this sorted an issue I had with sponginess on my old 600 - can't say I've bled the thou caliper yet though

Re: Rear caliper wont bleed - midden - 04-06-14

I recently had to remove one piston and clean because it wouldn't push back in. A ring of crud had formed around the piston.
I had trouble with bleeding the rear brake as well even though I was using one of those one way valve tubes from Halfords which I found crap. I ended up doing it the old way of closing the nipple before releasing the brake pedal after each pump and that worked a treat Smile

I thought you were always supposed to close the nipple after every pump? Open, Pump, Close, Release etc
