Fazer 1000 tips please - kturvy - 01-06-14 Hi all, looking at buying a 2003 to 2006 fazer 1000 ASAP, hopefully dark blue too ![]() Re: Fazer 1000 tips please - sadlonelygit - 01-06-14 actual faults...........exup valve seized or not working properly. when you turn the ignition on you should hear a 'tzzz tzzzz' patent pending from under the tank.............unless it has a full race system on. talking of which.........unless it is a decent pipe....akra, hindle, muzzy, budget in a replacement. a sandy's is a no-no. usual check for rear suspension slop and if it has a centrestand, check the middle brace where it attaches to the legs. if the rev counter reads funny.........that's a diagnostic report! it's desirable to have an ivans kit and sorted suspension, belly pan, hugger etc check for damage to the tank where the handlebars go as they are made of cheese and tap the tank in the event of a tip over. HTH Re: Fazer 1000 tips please - Kosmic Kartman - 02-06-14 All the above and as you've said... GALAXY BLUE is the way to go. PS You won't always hear a tzzzz tzzzz from under the tank L/H Side but you more than usually hear the petrol pump behind the O/S side cover for a few seconds when you turn the bike on in the morning. If the EXUP is seized you'll get the tacho needle bouncing up to 7,000rpm and back to zero every few seconds. There are other error codes see here: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/611236/Yamaha-Fzs1000.html?page=19 And as well as the wealth of useless information found on this forum see also here: http://www.cartestsoftware.com/fz1/ Re: Fazer 1000 tips please - PieEater - 03-06-14 A good indication of whether the owner looked after the bike properly would be to ask them what their EXUP servicing routine was, if they looked at you blankly I would probably walk away at that point. If they haven't had the bike very long then you could forgive them that and check for yourself that the bolts holding the cover on can be turned, walk away from anything seized as the bike hasn't been properly maintained. If buying from a dealer go out for your test ride, go round the block and check for yourself that the bolts holding the cover on look in good condition and can be loosened & tightened properly, any signs of Coppaslip are good, then get back on the bike and enjoy. If the rear shock is original then figure on the cost of replacing it sooner rather than later as it won't be fit for purpose, the R6 shock mod would be worthwhile looking at. To be honest there's not much that goes wrong with them if they are looked after. Re: Fazer 1000 tips please - kturvy - 04-06-14 Where is the EXUP? Is it expense to repair/renew? I love the dark blue colour best Re: Fazer 1000 tips please - Exupnut - 04-06-14 I am here and i dont cost much... And yes... Blue is best...;-) Re: Fazer 1000 tips please - PieEater - 04-06-14 (04-06-14, 07:40 PM)kturvy link Wrote: Where is the EXUP? Is it expense to repair/renew? BITCH! :lol Re: Fazer 1000 tips please - unfazed - 05-06-14 There is you first major fault, Dark Blue is the slowest. :lol Haggling points are: Engine paint lifting making it look tatty especially the early silver engines Exhaust header clamps are rust prone and bad ones means new downpipes or a repair job using split clamps Seized EXUP valve as previously mentioned Swinging arm linkage wear Seized front suspension compression adjusters. Anything over 25000 mile should have had a valve check. Check for a repaired crankcase in front of the front sprocket. Easy to over tighten the chain and a high speed break with damage the crankcase. (Some botched repairs out there). Standard suspension front and rear is very soft and a good haggling point. The tzzzz tzzzz sound under the tank is the EXUP motor and if you turn the engine off with the ignition key it will tzzzz tzzzz next time you switch on the ignition and it you turn the engine off with the kill switch you will hear the tzzzz tzzzz and the next time you switch it will be silent. Reason is that the EXUP return to the home position when you hit the kill switch and it cannot do so when you turn it off with the ignition switch so it returns to the home position when you switch it back on. There, now you know ![]() |
