Is this normal? - woodwizzard - 31-05-14 Is it normal for fazer1000 gen1 to like starting without choke? I'm used to an old zx10 that loves choke, revs its doodahs off and then settles down. Only just got the fzs and starting from cold requires no choke. Starts straight up, doesn't smell rich, ticks over and idles nicely. The other quick question is, is it normal for the fan to cut in after ticking over for 5mins in a shed. Thanks for any insight. Re: Is this normal? - tex - 31-05-14 its normal for the fan to come on, as soon as you put it in gear it will stop, if the bike has been ivanised it normally starts without choke on all but the coldest mornings. ![]() Re: Is this normal? - woodwizzard - 31-05-14 Ah, thats good to know about the fan, had me worried then. It also explains why there was information about fitting an Ivans kit amongst the paperwork that came with it. Will have to tell the mot tester not to use the choke so he doesn't flood it. The bike has also had the forks sorted by Maxton and a Maxton rear shock fitted. Re: Is this normal? - nickodemon - 31-05-14 If it has been ivanised, it will run better with a race can. Nice looking bike too ![]() Re: Is this normal? - woodwizzard - 31-05-14 Does it have to be a race can or could it just be a free-er flowing road legal one? Re: Is this normal? - nickodemon - 31-05-14 A free - er flowing road legal can will work fine ![]() Re: Is this normal? - JoeRock - 31-05-14 Would probably also explain why it doesn't need choke as well if you've the standard can on there - it's probably running a bit rich as the standard can isn't letting as much air flow through as an aftermarket one (which is what the Ivans kit is designed to work with) Re: Is this normal? - woodwizzard - 01-06-14 Only been on here a day and you lot are cracking my wallet open already ![]() Oh, and another thing. Is there no header tank on these early gen1's? It's either very well hidden or I'm blind. Must get me a haynes. Re: Is this normal? - The Male Whale - 01-06-14 Header tank is in close to the rear shock on right hand side. Whale Re: Is this normal? - nickodemon - 01-06-14 I have one of these on one of mine. Good price also... Contact motad direct through ebay, as they do them cheaper than the shops. The link is for daytona, but you can contact them through the ad to ask for a price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-955i-Daytona-Venom-Brushed-stainless-steel-road-legal-End-Can-/161321389315?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item258f810d03 Re: Is this normal? - woodwizzard - 01-06-14 Ah, there it is, thanks whale. Didn't recognise it as there was only a dribble in it :rolleyes That pipe looks good value, nice sound to it? Re: Is this normal? - esetest - 01-06-14 Mine started without the choke this morning and then cut out , then had to use the choke to start it , but it hasn't been started for a week , usually this time of year mine will start without the choke as long as its no more than a few days since I last started it . In the colder months it always needs choke to start . The fan does come on if left ticking over for a few minutes . Not too loud. Re: Is this normal? - woodwizzard - 04-06-14 Not sure what happened to the pic, so I will pop it back on ![]() If the bike starts fine with no choke because of the Ivans kit, is it a good thing to be running so rich? Have no experience with kits. It certainly runs spot on and goes like a rocket ![]() Re: Is this normal? - fireblake - 09-06-14 My bike is Ivanised and the choke cable snapped a few months back. I find that when starting I hold the revs up by 1 or 2 hundred rpm's for 20 or 30 seconds and that is all that is needed. Mickey Re: Is this normal? - Exupnut - 09-06-14 My choke cable snapped a few weeks back aswell Mickey. Where did u get your replacement from and was it easy to fit? Re: Is this normal? - fireblake - 09-06-14 I've not replaced it yet, and might not bother. Kosmic has a cable tie affixed to the slider on the carb which works for him but you can slide this with your fingers if Choke is needed. Mickey Is this normal? - Exupnut - 09-06-14 I asked a few people and they said u couldn't get to it. Could u post a piccy with the part i need to get to please as I'm havin big probs startin it and I'm goin up to deefer's soon in Cambridge to get some parts fitted and the bike hasn't been used for 6 weeks :-(( Re: Is this normal? - fireblake - 09-06-14 ![]() At tge end of my porky finger is the Choke slider, you can also see the end of the cable. You can push the slider and the Choke will be on. Mine is well lubricated and slides back although it is a good idea to push it back thoroughly from the other side just to make sure the Choke is off. |
