rear wheel opinions - Gromit - 24-05-14

Hi guys, noticed this morning I seem to have lifted the rim of my rear wheel. Would this be an mot fail or do.you guys think it would be ok as it is?

Re: rear wheel opinions - dcurzon - 24-05-14

Should be ok as long as the tyre seals

Re: rear wheel opinions - SteveCardiff - 24-05-14

I'd look to replace the wheel. You never know when that tyres gonna deflate.

Re: rear wheel opinions - Fazerider - 24-05-14

You're worried about an MOT? I'd be more concerned for my life.
That looks pretty bad and if/when it deflates it'll do it when the tyre's under stress as you're cornering.

Re: rear wheel opinions - dcurzon - 24-05-14

I should clarify my answer - I was referring to MOT.
I wouldn't want to ride on it though

bin it. can't be safe. wheels are cheap. you'll get one in the for sale section

Re: rear wheel opinions - unfazed - 24-05-14

It is repairable by any good alloy wheel repair specialist for around £50

Re: rear wheel opinions - Lumpy - 24-05-14

£50 buys a replacement. That amount of deformation is a scrapper. How the fuck though? Spares are easy to come by, I have a pair in the garage.

Re: rear wheel opinions - unfazed - 24-05-14

I have seen worse repaired, but if you can give him a wheel in good condition for £50 or less it is a no brainer

Re: rear wheel opinions - Chris - 26-05-14

Better change it, Never know what damage has been done to the structure of the wheels itself, could easily have a massive crack waiting to open up and spit you off.

Be safe.

Chris

Three or four on ebay at the moment at around the £50 - £60 price. Not worth the risk at all.

Re: rear wheel opinions - Deefer666 - 26-05-14

Thats fucked and by rights any MOT inspectors is gonna fail that under rim deformation, I have a whole heap of spare rears in the workshop
