weave /wobble - red98 - 17-05-14
Ok guys, I need a bit of help
.....ive got a bit of a wobble as I accelerate at about 70mph like a small tank slap can ride through it but is spoiling my ride....new tyres approx 1000 miles ago.forks and rear spring on factory settings, iam 12st so about average.........iam not hot on suspension so need a bit of help, going to check head and wheel bearings tomorrow, is there anything else I should be looking at ?

The noggyfighter gets a proper wobble on at similar speeds when changing gear under load...like the front end is real light & i have to lean over the tank to stop it...but it is light though coz ive got no front end.......probably no good to you whatsoever then but jus sayin Red.

Cheers for your input mr nog.......your right.no foccing use to me whatsoever :lol......thats another difference between the 6 and thou, my 6 jumps about all over the place when pushing hard, the thous weight helps with stability which I like....dont like the wobble though........had another thought, wonder if ive lost a balance weight off the rim .......

Yes, new bearing in the week, I noticed the wobble before I changed the bearing, will go back and double check though

Check the wheel alignment. Check steering head bearings aren't too tight. Tyre pressures.

+ one for wheel alignment, plus check wheel balance. Another thing is try relaxing your grip on the bars, holding on too tight can cause similar reactions.

I had a real wobble/weave on today going to work this morning but it didn't get bad till I hit 130, I put it down to the Draggin' jeans flapping and my oversized back pack. I must admit I've not checked my tyre pressures for a month or 2.

The O ring on my right fork cap sprung a leak last year which I didn't fix for ages. Caused a very pronounced wobble when giving the bike full throttle at high speeds. Cured as soon as I topped up the fork oil & fitted a new O ring.

If the front's going light you could try jacking the back up or lowering the front 10 millimetres........ just a thought.

grahamb....good point about the fork oil,was planning on changing it before my summer tour,thanks for the remininder
mick-h....all suspension on stock settings at the moment,thinking about dropping the forks to sharpen things up a bit...
off to work shortly but should be back by 11....i`ll have a little fazer fettling then

you could be right there slim...to make matters worse i rode through SLOUGH yesterday onto the A4 and upto EARLS COURT :lol

firstly"..hope this isnt a sequel to the stuttering 6?...the wobbling thou"?...anyway,..i had the very same from my fjr and that turned out to be the head bearings"...but i also had a tank slap on my bandit 12 and that was down to the swinging arm bearings?... :rolleyes ....so i will go for rear suspension bearings fkd or siezed cus ime bound to be wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a quick look......tyre pressures ok, wheel bearings ok, head bearings ok....wheel alignment slightly out on the marks, will use a long straight edge later to make sure......think I'll strip the rear end down to check swingarm bearings, I can clean and lube the shock link at the same time, not been done for a couple of years :rolleyes......forks seam a bit hard and slow to bounce back so an oil change will be good.......tyres as good as new with no damage, only done about 1000 miles, wheel balance ok and all weights present........might make a start this afternoon, or as its a nice day get the mountain bikes out and take my son down the local park and raid the ice cream man. :lol

Although an oil change will probably need doing mate, you'll need to proper clean the forks out as well - usually when oil goes off it goes thinner, so you lose damping, but I have heard of cases where the oil flow valves have got bunged up with crap if the oil hasn't been changed for a long time and need cleaning out!
