Tyre choice / Ground clearance - Scott - 11-05-14 Hi! I have the FZ6 2004, im struggling with ground clearance at the minute and am wondering if i changed tyres to a sportier tyre do i get more of a lean angle before hitting the edge of my tyre? Id like to take the pegs off the bottom of my footpegs however im at the edge of my tyre now and am thankful of the early warning sign, but do want a few extra degrees of lean, so wondering if tyre choice would alleviate this and if anybody has overcome this problem? cheers scott Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - bigralphie - 11-05-14 Would you not be better to lean off the bike a bit more instead ? riding off the edge of your tyre is not funĀ :'( Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - Scott - 11-05-14 I am leaning off im just hitting the limit of what its set up to do, and was wundering if anyones took there bottom pegs off or put on rearsets and not had an off as a result. Im thankful for the early warning of pegs hitting but wundering if you could push it that little bit more... Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - dazza - 11-05-14 Assuming your bike hasn't been lowered, I'd be more inclined to upgrade your rear shock so you get less compression when cornering. I haven't scraped my pegs once since I changed my rear shock, despite edging the tyres. Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - Scott - 11-05-14 Not really thought of that but good suggestion wat did you get? Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - dazza - 11-05-14 I went for an Ohlins with remote preload adjuster but I think any reputable upgrade will make a massive difference. Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - Scott - 15-05-14 fantastic thanks very much ![]() Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - Punkstig - 30-05-14 Touching edge of both tyres or just the rear? There is more lean available if it's just the rear! As for changing to sportier tyres- they will be the same size and won't change the lean angle however, they will have better grip at the tyre edge than for examsple a touring tyre! Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - johna6968 - 30-05-14 Before laying out for a new shock I'd be checking the rear preload setting... Re: Tyre choice / Ground clearance - Mattsplat - 05-06-14 Check your pre-load, take the antennas off the pegs, maybe change to a 55 profile rear tyre, lean off the bike more. The rear is easy to ride on the edge, if your not taking all of the front tyre, lean more. Conti sport attacks seem to have more edge to get it really low. |
