Sticky Throttle - old son - 06-05-14

I have a fuel injected bike (not a Fazer) that has been standing in a warm garage since June last year. I rode down to Hastings on the ay Day run and the throttle was sticking at around 7k. This seemed to free itself after a few miles and all now seems well except the revs don't want to drop below 2k. :'(

The bike was working perfectly when it was garaged in June.

Could this be a matter of blocked something or other due to the fuel standing around for so long? If it is then what is the best way of cleaning through the system? I am using the bike at the end of June so need to get it sorted what ever it is. Any ideas anybody?

When the bike isn't running does the throttle open and close freely? When you open the throttle fully does it snap shut when you let go or does it go back slowly and not close fully?  Have you taken the tank off at any point while the bike as laid up (Possibly trapped a cable). If the throttle opens and closes as it should it may be the injector butterfly valves are sticking and a decent injector cleaner might free things off.

Thanks for replying. The throttle snaps shut and opens and closes freely when the bike isn't running. The tank has not been removed, the bike was used last June, cleaned and put in the garage.

Do you have suggestions for a decent injector cleaner? Reading some of the reviews its suggested they don't work? I'm happy to try a recommended product though.

Have you put fresh fuel in the bike? Old fuel can some times confuse the fuel injection wizardry, and make the bike do some strange things!

Did less than a mile on the old fuel before I almost refilled the tank. I used all of that and have filled up again.

Redline fuel injection cleaner works well.
