givi monokey v monolock - andyajaxfreeman - 29-04-14

hello people i have just phoned up my local yamaha dealer and inquired about having A givi box and recommended that on a fz1 i should have a monolock system wish i was always under the impression that the monolock was for scooters and lightweight bikes. Has anybody on here had a monokey plate on a fz1? I would rather have the monokey with a bigger box than a 37ltr with a monolock plate. many thanks

The Monolock system is the more basic one in the range. Think Givi only tends to rate it for about 3Kg odd, whereas the Monokey, they rate at 10Kg. Of course this is just Givi covering themselves and everyone shoves a shed load more in them than that.

Either way, the Givi bars will generally be the same regardless and your just bolt a Monolock or Monokey plate to them, that clip on the appropriate box. Monokey boxes will cost you a bit more, but for plate there's not really much in it price wise.

got a monolock on my fazer with a gen-u-whine yamaha (givi) 42l topbox (holds 2 arais) and had 25kgs at 120+ on the autobahn

Monokey is more sturdy, better. I'd go for it if available. My FZS has the Monokey, with a 52 litre Kappa topbox on it.  Smile

Cheers for the replies. Currently bidding on rack/arms and monokey plate on ebay. Appreciate the advice.

I've got a monlock box on my 125 and put a monkey box on the fazer.

If you've got the cost of buying arms and plate then I'd go monokey, you could get a kappa monokey box for the price of the monolock givi box.

If you're going to Nuremberg you are miles away from Nurburg so will need a large top box for the extra night away :lol
