Next steps - Muzzychris - 11-04-14 Hey people. I'm wondering what my next steps are maintenance wise, realistically priced aswell to keep my bike running nicely. It's recently had oil and filter change, new air filter, spark plugs, chain removed and cleaned and new brake pads all round. Obviously all the other adjustments and new tyres etc. Bike has 33,000 miles on. It's far from a show bike but I'm just worried about something major going wrong as I'm avoiding valve clearances and a carb balance/service. Thanks in advance, what do you think? Re: Next steps - His Dudeness - 11-04-14 Checking the valve clearance is a bit awkward but nothing major. Lots of people don't bother doing it on Fazers because they think the clearances don't change much on them but I would check them. Carb balance helps but if you don't do it nothing bad will happen it just won't be running 100%. Someone might give you a lend of a balancer Re: Next steps - Dave48 - 11-04-14 Have a look at the service schedule (Downloads) or Haynes manual. Most are straightforward service items. Useful to check you've got the 12mm front sprocket nut fitted-instead of the original 9mm item. These are available as a nut & washer for about £2-44 from Yamaha main dealers-check sprocket nut threads on forum. Might be an idea to consider braided brake hoses if youre still running original rubber ones-they don't last forever & deteriorate with age. You can get a discount from Hel if you mention the forum-again see threads. Loads of help & advice from other foccers -just ask! Re: Next steps - darrsi - 11-04-14 Did you give the calipers a clean up at all? They like a bit of TLC occasionally to keep them in good order. Just a degrease and scrub with brake cleaner and a toothbrush on the pots, then smear them with red rubber grease. Re: Next steps - Muzzychris - 11-04-14 Thanks for the replys! Have ordered some braided hoses and a new black screen with some short levers also. The brakes have just recently been taken apart so not to bad! What is your opinions on renthal bars, do they make a difference or not so much as the bars are pretty flat anyway! Re: Next steps - johna6968 - 11-04-14 Got a fright when i saw how many holes are in the standard fzs600 bars to locate controls.. Never been a fan of removing control locating lugs when fitting Renthals.. The thought of drilling so many holes in the aftermarket bars put me off the whole idea.. :\ Re: Next steps - carlos - 11-04-14 I drilled my renthal ultra lows no problem I think you could get away with just doing the throttle fixing hole what short levers are getting?? |
