Bike now started - Idle issues? - leviathanrising - 11-04-14

I'd like to thank folk on here helping me diagnose problems starting the bike again.

The main issue I have now is it's idling low to the point where it sounds like it's about to stall, and then a few seconds later it'll return back to something more modest like 1,500, it is say erratic the needle isn't smooth and I assume the carbs would probably need balancing now I've tinkered and cleaned them. All 4 cylinders are firing, I know because I now have burnt numb finger tips from touching the downpipes.

It's probable something trivial that I might get a garage to look at since it'll need an mot anyway, although the engine oil is old too and will be getting the whole change over on Saturday.

Any more tips appreciated.

Yes balancing the carbs should help.

If it doesn't:

You can buy a lazer temperature gun, they're not that expensive, I bought one from Maplin for about £50.00

In any event, you start the bike, let it tick over for a minute or two and check the exhaust header temperature.
Whichever one has an unusually low reading that's likely where you've got a problem.

Assuming one has an unusually low reading, first thing to do is change the plug, and try again.

After that it's a process of elimination.

Laser temp gun on ebay for £10, got one myself for remote temp checks, well worth grabbing one :-)
